Hey man that may or may not be REALLY bad. It would be a good idea to let the area cool down for 2-3 days first. The stomp was their way of getting you to move. Staring contest? Suggest you lower your eyes and don't make eye contact except maybe with only one eye in your peripheral vision.

How long did you wait before you got down and left? They won't usually go but 30-50 yards, usually in a circle and then watch you. Let it cool down for a few days first.

bflem55, if it was a mature buck or even a mature doe, they would avoid your tree after being discovering you there. If it was young does or bucks, they will probably be back. I've shot at young deer and missed them and had them come back to the same spot the very next day and kill them. To be safe, though, I'd give them a few days. You got to remember theres two species of whitetail, young whitetail and mature whitetail. Young deer you can mess up with a little, mature deer aren't as forgiving and they don't forget most of the time, but, there's exceptions to every rule. She was stomping to try to get you to move. She knew you wasn't suppose to be there but didn't know what you were. She probably winded you finally or just got nervous and started blowing as she departed the area.
Sooner hunter, we must of been replying at the same time cause if I'd read yours first, I'd just said, sooner got it right.
