Leverdude's post about his buck got me thinking about those of you who still have an open season. Do you have to worry at all about bucks already having lost their headgear??? I know that technically any deer without antlers could fall under an antlerless tag but I'm supposing most of you don't want to do that if possible. I was just curious to see if it's an issue at all.... and one more thing... if you're still hunting ... I'm JEALOUS!!

I was told a story. and subsequently read about it in Woods and Waters I think, about a guy here in Massachusetts who shot a buck during muzzleloader a few years ago (back when it ended a week before Christmas!). When he hit it, both of the antlers fell off. They made him tag it as an "antlerless" deer. I don't know what would happen to you if you tried to check it in and you didn't have a doe tag.

Our tags here dont care about sex. We have antlerless only & either sex tags. So a buck tag can go on any deer. This late to be honest I wouldn't shoot a big doe for fear it would be a buck, that said it seems they dont lose them around here till Feb for the most part. There was another antlered buck with mine, I took one last Jan 9th that had his headgear & see them often enough in my travels.
