that's so sad....wish they would have told the type of treestand it was but i guess realistically it wouldn't really matter.....hopefully this post will save at least one life....i've had a couple close calls but thankfully i always use my harness....most importantly while climbing up and down....and as someone else stated: make sure your top and bottom pieces are tied together.

I don't think I went above 20 feet this year. Probably averaged around 15ft.

Climbers have always made me nervous , especially when mine slid down 3 feet last year .
My feet were still through the foot bar , which was all that kept it from dropping the rest of the way leaving me 15 feet up with no way down but to cut the strap on my harness . I'd always been a ground hunter before that , might have to rethink the whole climbing thing .

Kevin1 why didn't you have the top and bottom tied together? I won't say it will never happen to me but I take the steps to make sure it doesn't happen. Check your harness everytime, put it on properly and just use common since. Tie top and bottom together everytime.
They were tied together , both halves of the stand let go at the same time . It was my own dumbass fault for not checking that the stand was mounted to the trunk properly before ascending , and the trunk was also wet at the time . I ended up dangling by my harness(which did work) with the stand hanging from my feet . Have you ever seen an out of shape fatboy try to do knee lifts with a 21 lb. weight attached to his ankles ? It ain't pretty ... [&:]

ha ha that funny kevin1. I am just wondering is the harness really uncomfortable when you fall? Also if your stand would have fallen to the ground how would you of got down, this question goes for anybody really. I have always wondered what I would do if my stand fell and to tell you the truth I don't know. Safety First All The Time Every Time.
