Default Just a reminder - Wait At Least 1 Hour!!!

As archery season opens across the country, this forum will be littered with posts that read -

"Help! Lost the 10 pt. I shot"
"Can't find him, any ideas?" etc.

I have an idea, WAIT!

Happens every year. It will continue to happen. It's sad. Some deer may not be recovered no matter how long you wait to begin tracking, it does happen. But so many deer will not be recovered simply due to impatience. There is virtually no excuse for not waiting at the very least 1 Hour to start tracking a wounded animal. Even in the pouring rain, I would wait an hour. Unless the animal drops dead in front of you, PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE WAIT AN HOUR OR TWO TO START TRACKING! I promise you will have a better chance of having venison in the freezer if you take your time and wait.

Thank you for your time<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

How in the heck can you take a nap after shooting a deer. That would be the last thing that I would be able to do!!

But I have to agree with tribal.

Wait an hour or two if you like....I'll stick with waiting 20-30 minutes for a good shot and more time as the situation dictates. I refuse to wait an hour for a double lung or heart shot. If that crashes within earshot chances are it has expired or will shortly.

Sometimes the eyes can play tricks on you, even for an experienced bow hunter. I thought I had a perfect shot this morning on a doe. She walked off as if nothing happened while I stood there waiting for her to fall over. After a nearly 3 hour wait I found her piled up 120 yds away. I had only caught liver and maybe nipped a lung. Glad I waited.

Some things are true whether you believe them or not.
