Can't eat antlers
#22
RyanPdadeerslayer - I've been hunting in PA long enough to know that there aren't too many guys who really "pass up eight points on a daily basis." When you meet a guy that does, you'll know he's telling the truth, b/c he'll have some beasts hanging in his living room. Furthermore, I've never even seen a 38 point buck. Soooo.....
Your neighbor might wanna check into a rehab clinic, or you could stage an intervention. One or the other.

I've killed bucks and I would take a big doe over a big antlered buck any time any year. However who am I kidding I take what I can get! Including the little tiny button buck that I got on Saturday. HeHe. Tasty little critter!

Turtle,
Does are more tender. So yes, everytime. I've only been presented with the option once and I took the doe. I usually don't let them walk for very long. Seconds maybe.
I don't keep wall mounts. I shot an eight pointer this year in Tennessee for muzzle loader. I kept the rack for a couple of days and then I threw it away. Now it wasn't anything to jump up and down about but it was still an eight pointer.

Personally I have killed enough deer in my lifetime, that it is not just about killing something anymore. I dont consider myself a Trophy hunter only, but where I live you can only archery hunt for deer, and allowed only one buck. So yes until the last week of season I pass on alot of decent bucks. Then if I have had no luck, i get meat for the freezer.
I put to much work in scouting, hanging stands, and staying up at night all excited planning the next days hunt to just shoot the first average buck that walks by.
To each his own.

I've passed plenty of small or immature 8 points, but I would never pass on a 38 point buck . . . and neither would any other serious hunter. He never had any kind of chance at a 38 point or he would have shot.
