Nice deer,
Too bad its Illegal to feed deer in NY; I hope your not breaking any other laws while representing yourself as a hunter. The law is the law, right or wrong; if you don't like it, get it changed, but until then do the right (legal) thing.

It's either corn and apples...........or my bushes and trees at $100 a pop. They are eating either way. Besides, I'm not feeding the deer.....I am feeding the squirrels and rabbits.....I can't help it that the deer come in and eat the squirrel food. They eat the seed right out of my birdfeeders too.........you feed them whether you like it or not.

I hope your not breaking any other laws while representing yourself as a hunter.
I am not a hunter in my yard.

I am doing the right thing.

Yeah, we are not allowed to feed the deer either but around where my folks live the deer come in and raid anything they can reach, squirrel feed (Put out to keep the tree rats out of the bird seed), bird feeders or decorations, anything they can get there little mouths on. And if they can't get that they will eat the shrubs, the trees and anything else that appeals to them. My folks just laugh about it now but the numbers are getting huge.. 10-15 deer at a time in the yard and some big ones too. Not a lot of hunting in the area and no gun season in that part of the county so the deer density is thick. I would wager that many, many folks in that neck of the woods put out corn and oats for deer not even knowing it is illegal...

Atlas,
unfortunatley, you have just told me and everyone else all we need to know about your ethics. If you are man enough to choose to break a law, be man enough to admit it; that would be respectable. I'm sorry you chose not to.
However, I never accused you of hunting in your backyard; and never said if i agreed with the law or not because its irrelevant; I simply questioned the fact that if you are willing to break the Environmental Conservationslaw in your own back yard, I hope that you are not willing to break the law while your hunting (ie. representing yourself as a hunter).
Its your own free will to either follow or break the law; but I would hope all real sportsman TRY to follow and obey all the game / environmental conservation laws; and if they don't agree with one, try to change it. I would have had a lot more respect for you if you hadn't tried to white wash your willfully breaking the law.
Prime example was when I got pulled over for speeding last spring, the trooper asked me if i knew why he pulled me over, and I told him "yes, because I was speeding"; I was in the wrong and admitted it, and he let me go with a warning. I'm no angel, but when I'm wrong, and know it, i admit it. jmo

Dang man integrity is one thing but good lord, is it that big of a deal?? Giving deer something else to eat instead of them eating his bushes? I understand obeying the law but it's not like its a henous crime. Chill a little..

Atlas....dude I'm sorry if I had to grin a bit at your post when I first read it and saw your pics...here you shoot the first button that walks by and then you're taunted by a monster like that eating your bushes and bird seed...let 'em go and let 'em grow...I love it!;):D

Yes I have........I take care of my family and property that we all work very hard to keep up. I also do my best to help the animals in my yard survive through the winter given the limited habitat they are left with. Whatever animals come to take advantage of that help is beyond my control.

If you are man enough to choose to break a law, be man enough to admit it; that would be respectable.
I am man enough to break a law........the other day I went 3 miles an hour OVER the speed limit [:o]

I'm sorry you chose not to.
I'm not.

You said I was breaking the law while representing myself as a hunter. That is untrue...........what I do as a hunter has nothing to do with what I do in my yard.

I hope that you are not willing to break the law while your hunting (ie. representing yourself as a hunter).
Yea, well don't worry because I don't........everyone here knows that about me already. Try to accumulate more then 20 posts before you start questioning people's character.

Remember that the next time you sit in your teestand until dark.........or climb in at dark and pull your bow up because both are illegal.

I would have had a lot more respect for you if you hadn't tried to white wash your willfully breaking the law.
I couldn't care less if some random stranger off the internet "respects" me based on his myopic perception of what goes on in my backyard.

If you had been here for a longer period of time you would have answers to all your little problems..........you know what they say about not assuming ;)

I shot the first one........and the second one that walked by ;)

These deer don't taunt me......they are practically extended family. I have seen at least 5 bucks in the last couple years that were bigger then this one........I have video of a 10 and a 12 playfully tangling antlers and pushing each other back and forth and it even picked up the sound of the antlers clicking........neat stuff.

I have a nice flock of turkey, rabbits, hawks, bats, squirrels, and deer by the dozen. I get to see the spotted fawns stumble around chasing mom in the spring and then the velvet and spring coats change to antlers and winter coats right before my eyes.........it's not a bad thing, trust me.
