Its foundered. The nails grow up like that when that happens. Happened to a mule of my neighbors, and a cow of my uncles not too long ago.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) That it occurs when there is too much sugar in their diet.

I've also read that too (not about the sugar) but about the nails...I think it was in North American Whitetail. I'll see if I dig that article up and shed some light on the subject.

I'm pretty sure that that's one of Santa's elf's deer,that's why the nail's grow so long ,they're spending too much time flying all around the country .LOL

Yep foundered, you usually see that in the horse species including mules and such. I never have seen it in a deer but I have seen cattle foundered so I suppose deer can get that way also. Man you could make some killer coat racks with those babies.
