Yeah they are a caging beast, on public land in Northen MI, one of the most high pressured area's in MI(Huron National Forest) to hunt I have to toss stuff at them to get them to leave. Shooting a dumb deer(fawn) one of the easy things to do.
Like I said........we can play this game all day. If you want to use that logic then every deer is "easy" to shoot. Traditional guys say that to compound guys who say it to crossbow guys who say it to shotgun guys who say it to rifle guys and on and on.

For every story of a wiley deer that outsmarted someone there is one about a deer that walked right into someone else.......there is no cover-all statement to assess deer smarts or lack there of. Each situation is different..............every deer is a genious right up to the point when it gets killed.

If people read your threads(I always read your Atlas) they would know you whacked two fawns which is 100% your choice and I support your choice 100%.
Shot one last year too.

What I do not support is you getting all high and mighty on people...........You had to take a shot at the guy. He was just sharing a nice story.
I don't think I took a shot at anyone. The guy came here and asked for opinions so I gave mine.

One of the toughest hunts I've ever endured......the lines at the grocery store were dense and the freezer section was picked pretty clean from years of offering too many coupons.......I found a nice ambush location that had definate fresh sign of a freezer section stock clerk and his route through a nice transition area. I waited and waited for what seemed like an eternity and finally my prize peaked through the swinging doors of the stock room and out into the early morning light of the flourescent bulbs.......I steadied myself and calmed my nerves as it drew closer and closer. The moment of truth had arrived and with every ounce of energy I had left I reached out and asked the young kid if he would toss me a bag.......he said "What kind?".........I responded "waffle.......of course".......as if I would take anything less.....being the "trophy" hunter that I am. It truely is a wonderful feeling of satisfaction to know that I got the chance at that bag of waffle fries because I had the skill and discipline to let so many other "lesser" bags of fries walk........knowing full well that they may fall prey to another fry hunter not as skilled or knowledgable as myself and I may never see them reach their full potential as a fry.......it is a price worth paying and even though many days I go home fryless I still have a deep satisfaction knowing that I am a better fry hunter because I don't just take any sliced potato out there just to say "I got one"
I am now a dumber person because I read this, and I now need therapy

Why??

From the looks of the board the last couple years you might wanna take a fawn or two just to get the dust off your bow ;)

I think there is a book deal for you Atlas "How to shoot the little one's", every year I help my Grampa drag and gut his fawn. It is all he will shoot and respect his choice as I do yours. Anyone who takes a deer in the wild deserves our respect. This hunter shot one in the wild, now was the deer wild, no, but the hunter had no idea. I for one say good job to him and you Atlas for both having success!!!

RE: Big Buck Found

What's your point?? I don't kill them. I have deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, hawks, and bats all over my yard........I do my best to help them survive with what little habitat our sprawl has left them with........and we have some laughs along the way. What don't I "get"???
You go on and on about how wrong it is to have fenced in deer that get harvested by paid hunts, which I dont agree with myself, and wouldnt pay to do it either, but you are feeding deer in your yard illegally in NY and seem to overlook that point, plus you are changing deers natural inate feeding habits, and, you said they are in your yard watching you while you shoot your bowwhich seems to me that you are makingwild deermore tame or feel safe around humans and ruining their so called natural inate defense more than anything else. But it is okay to go somewhere else and kill deer which is fine as long as they arent deer that are coming into your yard and being fed by you? You say you are helping the animals survive in an area that you said naturally cant support the popualtion with little habitat and sprawl in/around your property. Seems kind of stupid not to take advantage of harvesting deer that are on your property when you know which ones would be good to harvestwhen you know their feeding habits, bedding habits and to get the population down to where it would survive naturally. Thats sad, or idiotic.

Obviously you don't know what the definition of hypocrit is then.
What I just quoted and posted in the paragraph aboveto me is a hypocrit.

Yea.......I bet the deer is very grateful that he did him that favor
so you would ratherthe deer possibly starve a horrible death because he hasnt lived and fed in the wild before especially in winter when food is scarce??

Do you feel proud of yourself as a hunter when you kill the cow??
Has nothing to do with being a hunter or feeling proud for killing cows. And I dont kill or raise cows. Steers are raised for beef, chickens are raised for eggs and meatto sell and feed humans like they have for hundreds, even thousands of years all over the world, something I guess you dont understand or cant comprehend. I have chickens I show that I am proud of, kids and adults enjoy the birds that I bring to fairs and 4H events, brown leghorns, and red and silver dorkings that I dont kill, I get eggs from them and enjoy raising and breeding them as do children that come to see the birds, collect eggs and help take care of them. I raise cornish birds for meat which is what the breed is for. None of my animals are raised in cages, they can go inside or roam outside areas as they choose.

Nope..........though not really a fair comparison seeing how I have never shot a caged pet.
I dont see where this even comes into play as Ive said numerous times in this useless discussion with you. The person didnt know it was previously caged so how is this a comparison on shooting cages pets?
