Would You Sell Your Deer?
If you were fortunate enough to take a monster buck with a bow and were offered money and a replica of the deer....would you do it?
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Thats a tough one. How much money are we talking? Why would someone want to buy a deer that that did not shoot?
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Yes . It's just meat to me and I can always use a little cash .

RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
If you don't measure 'em, you won't have to worry about such stuff.:) I sincerely doubt it, but I guess there's a price for everything. Like maybe a few hunts in far a way places would be nice. Or maybe, sell the replica rights and keep the deer. I really really doubt it. It's just not my style or dreams. Hunting to me is just plain a simply a personnal thing to me. I don't do it for fame or acclaim or money.

RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Sometimes different retail stores will buy them to put on display.
But yes, I would sell it. There was a guy around here a few years ago that sold one to bass pro for 25K. I don't do it for the money, but it would sure be a welcome bonus. |
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Good question. So much hard work and time goes into getting a big rack that the money would have to be substancial. Lets say for the sake of arguing 50,000. Bye Bye rack.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I'll give ya $450 for it right now....as is;);)[8D]
Actually, for me, no I probably wouldn't. Unless there was a serious need for some $, and assuming they were offering alot of $. |
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
ummmm ............ let me think .................. HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Problem is, the selling of antlers in some circles leads to poaching. For example, if someone is willing to pay out a couple of hundred to a thousand dollars for a trophy size head, there are those who would poach for the money. I'd be willing to bet a few antlers sold on EBAY were taken that way.
Personally, if I were offered several thousand dollars and a replica for an already mounted head, I would sell. |
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
In the event I actually took a World Class animal, than I would indeed be interested in selling it to a private collection. I personally think that it would be the best place for it.For a buck that I tagged to be preserved and displayed in something such as the National F&W Museum in Springfield would be an honor. Also, it would be greatknowing that I wouldn't have to worry about theft or fire or anything else that could happen in the privacy of your own home.Plus it would be awesome knowing that the "right" buck would be worth enough for a great down payment for some more prime hunting ground!

RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I know of two people that were offered money from Cabelas for their racks. I would definitly sell.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
my grampa was telling me that a few years back his freind had gotten a little i think 6 point and someone paid him 500 bucks for the whole deer the meet and everything sounds good to me
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
It would be awesome to have a deer you shot displayed in cabelas. And if they gave you a replica of it thats a win win situation. Throw in 25k and i'm gonna go with hell yeah.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I have pondered on this subject many times.I just dont know what I would do with it.I mean money can be made at shows and duch for a huge set.So it might be more money in the long run to keep it and just lease it out for a few months at a time to differnt places.May make you a substancial amount more.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Like Jerry Macguire said "Show me the money" for a replica I would no doubt, for the actual rack no way Jose.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I'm on the same page as Trbal! I would never sell the real deal! But a replica I might if the money was there! I guess I would have to be put in that situation to really know! Which I wouldn't mind!!!!![8D]
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I wouldnt have a problem selling the rack in exchange for a replica. It would have to be for a decent sum of money and the money would go for my sons college education.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
only to the stinking rich and only if the price was right. i love my meet and keep my antlers for memories dude.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
When I was in college, I worked for my dad during the summer's doing construction. We were building an addition on this guys house, and he heard me and my dad talking about deer hunting. He had me come inside to see his "big buck". The thing was freakin' HUGE...he told me it was a replica of the actual deer he killed. I would never have known otherwise. He got some "bucks" and the replica...can't remember who he sold it to...some organization that travels around with a bunch of monster whitetails giving "clinics" I think...a replica that looked good, and the memories of the hunt would be good enough for me to sell for whatever I could get out of it. lol But then, I DO have 5 kids, and they eat more every day. :D
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
For the right money and a good replica, yup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Without hesitation!
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
No I wouldn't. I would however be willing to sell the rights to a replica for a nominal fee though, no problem there.
But on the other hand, I think anyone who would pay for either a replica or the original is a little wacko in the head. A retailer looking for ornamentation, or an outfitter who would like to decorate his lodge with trophies that his clients have taken is one thing, but a collector? That's just silly. Heck, I get emotionally attached to the smallest of racks I have (and I do have some small ones[&o]), never mind a monster! |
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
For all of you all that said no, you are sitting finacialy better than I am or you didnt think this through!!!! If someone is going to give me a replica (saving $500 on a mount) and a pile of cash! If that is the question, you dang right!!!!!! Especially if you are talking $25g gone, see ya, just cut the check.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
no, a trophy deer is the greatest memory any hunter could have. i could never do it
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Not in Texas. Its illegal. even if it were not, I wouldnt, unless they were willing to dish out some serious money.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
According to burniegoeasily, it's illegal where I live, but I still wouldn't do it. I would sell a replica, but I would want to keep the original myself. It might be something kind of neat if you ever got the chance to pass it down in the family or something and know it was the actual deer.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
yeah, i have a set of replica antlers already and they are identical
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Yea, if the price was right I would do it. I'm a poor college kid.:(
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I guy named Russ Nobe just shot a 22 point buck this year in Illinoisthat he sold to buckmasters for 300,000. He hunts about a mile from where i hunt.

RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I would sell if a replica was made and the price was right!
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Yes, I would.
1.) I can always use the money. 2.) If we're talking world class, everyone would know it's my buck anyway, so I wouldn't have to prove anything. Which leads to the next point: 3.) Everyone would know I had it. Theft of world class deer heads is a real concern and not one I would want to deal with. (and as someone mentioned earlier fire) 4.) I would sell to some sort of public accessable entity, not a private collector. 5.) I would retain all rights to the deers image and any royalties from replicas and promotional photos. (I can always use the money.) 6.) I might have to have some sort of stipulation allowing me to borrow it for certain shows. (I can always use the money.) 7.) A good artistic replica will be sufficient for my needs. I'm not going to take it off the wall and fondle it. If it looks real it will be a sufficient reminder to me. My memories are not sold with the head. Only old age can take those. I have the same opinion about any kind of expensive heirloom I might find or inherit. No matter what the sentimental value I can't afford to have that kind of money lying around my house to be stolen, or destroyed. I get upset enough when I break, loose some cheap item around the house let alone something of that value. Seems like more a burden then a blessing. |

Sorry...but that I don't believe! Unless it was in pennies. |
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Sell....Sell.....Sell.....thats what them make cameras for....a few pictures and memories as well as a fat wallet would be fine for me. With as much money as I spend on hunting it would be nice to get a financial return at some point. And imagine the pull you would have with the wife, if I got $25k for a mount I could talk her into letting me go hunting whenever and wherever I wanted. Win win situation in my book.
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I'd never sell the original unless it was needed for afamily emergency. I would allow replicas to be made and sold for cash. I am always looking for timber land to buy. :D:D:D
|
RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
Tough call. It would be very hard for me to part with a world class buck that I had been scouting all summer/fall and spent countless hours in a treestand hoping for that one shot. I'd like to say that it wasn't for sale. But, a lot of zeroes on the end of a check could take care of a lot of bills. Also, I'd be afraid I would have to keep it in a locked vault all the time for fear of it being stolen from my house. Lucky for me my biggest is 130" and nobody is beating down my door with a checkbook in hand to buy him.

RE: Would You Sell Your Deer?
I found a set of sheds and had them shoulder mounted with a cape of mine. It scored 222 6/8. I had a guy offer me $5000 for it. I told him no thanks, they mean too much to me.

Just curious how many of those that wouldn't see their deer would buy a deer?
