I hunt in Central Illinois. We have had an epidemic of west nile virus in this area. (A disease carried by mosquitos.) It has killed over 300 people and has also killed horses and other animals. Has anyone heard if it has been affecting the deer. Wonder if the meat will be safe to eat?

djdtc - the CDC has listed that only 148 people have died from west nile in the whole USA. The current number of cases for IL is 654 with 38 deaths.
WNV is NOT transmitted from person-to-person, animal-to animal, or animal-to-person. Only an infected mosquito can transmit the virus.
So far from what I have seen is that there are no reports of WNV in deer so far.
If you want more info go to www.cdc.gov
