Hey ya'll, I was wondering if the rut has kicked in for you yet. I'm in east Tx, about 70mi. east of Dallas and I'm just now starting to see some fresh rubs & scrapes. Seems a little late this year and I'm curious if you are experiencing the same thing. Dang heat... I'm sure looking forward to some cooler temps.

I thought TExas was one of those strange states that didn't get a rut until late Dec or Jan or something like that. Always thought it odd. Then too, look at Georgia and Alabama. Most of Georgia the rut is in November. Not so for Alabama. Theirs usually runs about a month later I think. Strange deal. We used to have a guy come over and visit and hunt our camp on one side of the Chatahoochee River during the rut because they wouldn't have theirs 75 miles away for a month. Strange deal.

Can't tell for sure. I've had friends say they've seen fawns by themselves, bucks still grouped, bucks with does. I haven't had much of a season so far. Only seen 1 small doe where I've been hunting and that was yesterday morning. A few weeks ago I had an 8 run straight at me to about 5 yards and then take a hard turn and bound off. I thought he was attacking me. That's the only buck I've seen but have found 4 rubs nearby. Maybe just starting but it's been fairly warm still. My guess is it hasn't kicked in. If it would cool off I think things will "heat" up.
