Default I missed but it's OK

Well fellas I was out this morning and around 7 a.m I had a doe a fawn and a 8 pointer trot past my stand. The buck did stop where I could shoot him but I passed, but as they trotted away I told the doe that if she brought him back that I was going to shoot him. A hour later guess who decided to come right back where she came from. OK so I stand up because I am a man of my word, I get my bow and hook my release on. The buck stops about 40 yards out facing directly at me. Absolutely nothing but air between him and I. Suddenly another doe approached from the south and she was semi interested in this young man. Well the original doe exited when she noticed the opportunity. The buck decided to give this intruder a second look real fast. He stops about 15 yards out from my stand but not offering a shot. He wasn't real impressed with this intruder and decided to catch up with his original girlfriend. Well he passe by me at 18 yards and I BAH at him, he keeps walking slowly. I am at full draw and I think that I am anchored good on him. I try once more to stop him and decide to lead him just a touch and let it go and THWACK. A dead oak tree. I wasn't looking through my peep sight. Never has happened to me be4 but now it has. He was a decent enough buck I do live in Iowa so I know there are better ones. I know it was a long story to hear about a miss but I laughed real hard when I tried with no avail to get my braodhead back. Later fellas.

If you hunt long enough, there will be a miss or two on your resume'.[]

I had a similar experience a couple weeks ago. Tried to take a shot at a decent (well in my book anyway) buck. Probably and 8 pointer, not much mass, but I'm still new to bow hunting and anything would be good for me to get. Anyway, he stopped behind a dead tree or bush like thing. I thought I could weave an arrow threw it, but I was wrong. Hit a limb and the arrow stuck in the ground right between his legs. He jumped and looked around but didn't take off. I attempted to get another arrow out, but was shaking so bad by then with buck fever, I couldn't hardly function. Next day I bagged my first deer with a bow. It was my first buck too!!! I seemed to forget to mention the missed shot if a few of my other posts.....don't know why. Oh well, it happens to everyone.

I'll take a clean miss over a crippling shot any time. The buck I killed in 04 I missed the first shot (arrow was sticking in the ground 11' from my tree) and shot him with the second at 13' from the tree. Glad he had just been rubbing a tree for a while and his head was still fuzzy or rattling that he didn't realize what the first shot was.
