I would never be in this position (but)...I'd kill myself!.
This is my problem with cross bows, people think you can just use it like its a gun.
Thats why people are shot with guns and not bows.
I'm not saying shooting into the abiss with a gun is alright either (by the way).
Its another reason states should make it mandatory to prove ability.

How could they test someone for ignorance?... All it's takes is a little common sense to know better than to shoot at sound or mere movement...The guy's a neglegent fool...Case closed...<img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Supposed too, would of, could of, should of, doesn't do a whole lot now as its kinda late for that. Educate our system on why this happens. He couldn't of been too bad of a dad by spending time with his son as he was, it was just unfortunate that that such carelessness could of happen and I could never imagaine the prison this man must live in for the rest of his life if he chooses. I think he needs our prayers as opposed to our critisism.

How can anyone, anywhere, anytime justify discharging any weapon, bow, rifle or slingshot without having clear picture of the target. I am completely astounded at these stories. Especially a father who knows his boy is in the woods with him. I never cease to be amazed at the shear stupidity of some people.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote<font size=1 face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>In Ohio, you can go to a 24hr WallyWorld at 4am and buy a X-bow (or any bow for that matter), bolts(arrows), tags and be in the woods by daybreak. No hunters ed required for adults (kids only), supposed to show proof of previous tag. I've never been checked in 22yrs, never heard of anyone being asked. X-bows are considered regular archery equipment and account for more deer taken than longbows. It is scary to me that there are so many guys out there that are cocked and locked AND they are a TRIGGER PULL away. <hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote>
I totally agree with above quote, I see it happens every year.
We have huge problem here, We have a large number of BAD HUNTERS in the woods.
Our lack of law enforcement has perpetuated years of lawlessness except for few token bust every year for publicity.
Poaching, game and hunting violations,Bowhunter education some of is our ODNR lowest priority and our biggest problems.
Basically Ohio ODNR has alot dirty little secrets.
Unfortunatly its all about low cost High revenue for the state.Put as many hunters in woods as posible.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
And if ODNR gets pressed on this issues, I garentee they slap ORANGE on every bowhunter instead on spending any $$$$$$.More like HUGE orange badade to me.OEH

I have watched this topic from the day it happened, and have not been able to remark on it. Assuming that this was not an intentional act, it was certainly an act that should have never happened. That being said, can anyone of us imagine what guilt this man will live with for the rest of his life? I am not saying that a prison term should not follow, but could that compare to what he will endure regardless? This is a truly sad situation.

I certainly agree that this man is wihtout a doubt living in guilt and remorse but that still doesn't mean that it's Ok to have done such a stupid thing.
To me it's really no different than a murder on the street.
Just because it's in a hunting environment doesn't make it right or excusable does it? It's neglegent and senseless, it speaks bad of other hunter's and it just simply should never have happened.
I don't mean to sound ruthless, I'm not... But somehow we need to start reducing these stupid acts before it comes up and bites us all in the butt. It's more ammuntion for the anti's to use against us. If our justice system starts punishing for this type of thing then maybe people will wake up and pull their heads out...
Am I a perfect hunter?..NO.. Do I know right from wrong?..Yes.. Would I ever shoot at the sound or sight of corn rustling?..No, Never...
I'm found to be pretty anal when it comes to safety...I guess that's why this story irks me so much... I don't feel this way out of hatred of this man but rather the act he commited...
