It was absolutely stupid and violates every hunter safety tip we all learned before we got our first hunting license.
I had a thirteen-year-old son murdered in 1983 and his case has never been solved.
This father will never be the same and having caused this tragedy id be surprised if he didn't go crazy or commit suicide.

This is how we all get in trouble, one guy does something stupid and kills his son, then we all look bad. How could you get your son mixed up with a deer? Thats SOOOO stupid

I agree -- it's sick and stupid and violates everything i was ever taught about hunting.
And here's another one for you. Here in idaho, a 17 year old was shot dead with a rifle at 8 - 8:30 at night, while on private land, while practicing bugling. He too was sound-shot thru a bush. As an added complication, he was shot by a NezPerce native (who has the "right" to carry a gun during bow season and shoot anything at any time and, from the looks of things, at any place). And to top it all off, the maximum sentence for any crime on the reservation is a total of one year in prison. Since this crime crossed jurisdictions, he may get a different sentence -- but we're not too hopeful; no laws were broken. We are hopeful, tho, that some changes result in the way things are done out here from such a sickening tragedy.

We've all heard about this type of thing happening for years, especially in rifle season. I've always wondered what kind of moron shoots at a noise. And how many people actually harvest a deer by shooting at a noise? I don't even want to know the answer to that. It seems like he should be charged with something, but then again VC has a great point.

Say a prayer for his father if it was a simple, stupid accident. The rest of his life will be a true living nightmare.

This is not an accident. It's negligence..Period...How many times is this BS gonna happen? These people need to start being charged like a criminal instead of it being blown off as an accident. No, I'm not saying this man meant to kill his son but he did. He should have thought about what he was doing before he fired the damn crossbow. As stated above "Identify your targets" It's one of the first things we're all taught before we take to the woods.
Personally I've never ever seen a person that looked like a whitetail deer at bowhunting range...
If you can't tell this sh*t p*sses me off to no end...
God rest this young man's soul...

IT's terrible, how could somebody every accidently shoot another person while archery hunting. I really don't see how it's possible. Stuff like this should never happen, period!
