Be Honest...
How many of you have walked all the way to your tree stand and realized you left your bow in the truck ( or car) ?
|
RE: Be Honest...
Never done it with my bow, but my dad and I drove 45 min. to our duck club, made the 20 min. boat ride to our blind, and discovered just before shooting time that we had left our guns at the house!
|
RE: Be Honest...
I have never pulled that one, but I have left my release on two different occasions over the years.
|
RE: Be Honest...
Never.
I left my release in my bow case in the truck this year during the early season though. It was my first time hunting out of my newground blind, and I guess in my excitement to try it out, I forgot toput my release on.Fortunately the truck was only about 80 yards away from where my ground blind was. |
RE: Be Honest...
Never done it, but I have left my release at home on 2 occasions.
|
RE: Be Honest...
Left my harness at home today...felt naked w/o it. Still shot a buck.
Never have forgotten my bow/gun. |
RE: Be Honest...
Hasn't happened to me yet. But I've forgotten little things like grunt tube or rattling bag before.
|
RE: Be Honest...
i dont know how you would forget your bow! but ive forgoten a stand before
|
RE: Be Honest...
LOL! Never forgot my weapon(bow or gun), but have forgot ammo(Thanks to my bro for shooting the same stuff that I did) and have forgot my release twice at the truck. Toobad a bow hunt alone. ha, ha
|
RE: Be Honest...
Never done that but, about 10 years ago we got into moose camp which is a 24 hour drive from home and about 4 hours from the nearest town got the wall tents up and started getting my gear organized and realized I had left my underwear at home[:'(]. I had to threaten my near hysterical hunting buddies to each cough a pair at knife point to get me through my 8 day moose hunt. Funny, nobody wanted them back at the end of the week. Top that brain fart:D.
|
RE: Be Honest...
This year I left my release at home twice
and once I left the bow in the woods ![]() ![]() |
RE: Be Honest...
NOPE... never did it. I gotoutsidethe garage once and realized I left the bow in the house. That's about it. The only thing I ever forgot was a knife and I stuck a nice buck that day. Gutted him with an old Bear broadhead. I did get all the way to the woods one time last year with my blue undies on and my camo bottoms. I left the rest of my outfit in a bag in the garage. Len loaned me a shirt.
|
RE: Be Honest...
NEVER , IS THE FIRST THING I GRAP AND NEVER DROP IT!
|
RE: Be Honest...
I've never done that. But I have, on numerous occasions, climbed into my stand and realized that my release was back at the house. That kinda sucks too.
|
RE: Be Honest...
left my release, and flash light, and didn't go back for either.
|
RE: Be Honest...
I got you guys beat! I got to my new tree stand, climbed up hunted for 2 hours then realized I forgot my release in the car. NOW COMES THE STUPID PART. I climb down and leave allmy gear (except bow) to go back and get the release. I get a bit lost going back tomy new spot and have to search for my equipment for over an hour!
|
RE: Be Honest...
A couple years ago I brought my climber in and locked it up the day before my hunt. The next day when I get to my stand I realize I did'nt have the key! What a dummy! I had to drive the 30 mins home to get it. I still got in before first light. I keep it with my car keys now.:D
|
RE: Be Honest...
Never a bow. A release and a lowering line,[:@] yes.
|
RE: Be Honest...
I forgot my release once, but never my bow!
|
RE: Be Honest...
Never forgot my bow, but one time this year I did forget to put my hunting clothes in the truck. Luckily I was only hunting 5 min from my house, so everything worked out.
|
RE: Be Honest...
Nope never forgot my bow, but I did fall asleep once and droped it out of the tree. I always have an extra release in my pack in case i forget one or one breaks. I have had the same release for 10 years now. Ole trusty Tru ball
|
RE: Be Honest...
Has not happened to me, but did happen to a friend of mine. He actually left his bow at home (45 mins away)and did notrealize it until he started walking to his stand.
Hell of a laugh. |
RE: Be Honest...
Never done it but one of my huntingg buddies hiked about a mile back into the woods only to notice once he got up in his tree he left his quiver on his bow case.:D
|
RE: Be Honest...
Jan 1 2003, I left my hunting boots at home. I ended up hunting in my white Nike's--Got my first bowkill --a nice doe--go figure.
|
RE: Be Honest...
I've never forgot my bow but like some of the others...... i've left my release at home a couple times.
|
RE: Be Honest...
This one is the top. I have never forgot my bow, don't use release, and only forgotten a few small items (grunt, rattlebag, drink). But one year my Dad and I both forgot OPENING DAY!!! We were up at our lodge doing a workday to get the place in shape and at lunch they asked us if we had any luck. Luck? Hunting season doesn't open until NEXT weekend right?! PANIC! We had our bows and practice arrows and were able to scrounge up enough broadheads to get two arrows apiece and an evening hunt. :D
|
RE: Be Honest...
Ive gotten in the woods with my gun and realize i have a box of shells with me in my pocketbut no clips. Good ole single shot pump action time it was for me. lol.
|
RE: Be Honest...
1. Forgot gun once at home, and didn't realize it till we were packing to go into the woods. I sat in a tree with my buddy. No deer were killed that day, I think because my buddy wouldn't stop laughing at me.
2. I went duck hunting and forgot that I had put a gun lock on my shotgun and put the gun in its case because our friends were coming over and they had little mischevious kids. I completely forgot I did that. In the duck blind, I unzipped my case and pulled out my gun...DOH! Key was at home. 3. My uncle, my grandpa and I were going duck hunting 2 hours from home. We realized that we all 3 had forgot our duck calls. Went to a 24 hour walmart and bought 3. It just proves that I had no hope, because apparently forgetfulness runs in my family! 4. This year, I was getting loaded in a hurry after a hunt because I wanted to get home to see the Cardinals playoff game. I drove off and left my climber on the ground next to where I was loading up. I got halfway home before I thought "I don't remember having trouble getting the climber jammed in with the other junk under the cover". I pulled over, and sure enough...tailgate down, and no climber. It was still there when I got back thank goodness! Unfortunately, the Cardinals WEREN'T! But nope...I never forgot my bow. :o) |
RE: Be Honest...
Like everyone else it seems, have forgotten my release. Although, I just left it in the truck. I thought I had left it at home...so I drove all the way home (only 10 minutes) and realized it was in the bottom of my back pack in the back of the truck.
Have also brought the wrong ammo during gun season. Don't think BB shot will take care of a deer 50 yards away. Could have got pinched by the law on that one. Also have left grunt tube, gloves and other little items. |
RE: Be Honest...
Left my release first day out this year... won't make that mistake again. I don't have a problem shooting with my fingers, but my draw is set for my release, so thankfully no deer came by that evening.
That's about the extent of what I have forgotten... I have only been at it for 3 years now, I'm sure I will have a few more stories 10 years from now. Oh, I did leave my bow, and about 10 other things at my stand after I shot my deer this year. Hubby had told me to get out of the woods and let the guy lay down and die, so I did. I guess I thought he meant once dark hit we were gonna go back and track, but he meant he was gonna finish his hunt and come back a few hours later... so I had trekked all of the way to the truck, had to turn around, go back and get everything... only to realize halfway BACK to the truck, my phone wasn't in my pocket like it was on the way back to the stand. I had bent over at some point in the woods and it fell out. BACK I went, finally found my phone after 15 minutes of searching. Started my trek back to the truck, went to cross the ditch and there was a deer on the other side, so as not to disturb it, I had to go way in the heck out of my way (wasn't even familiar with it) to get back to the truck. By the time I got back to the truck, hubby's hunt was nearly over and I only had to wait 5 minutes! LOL I'm an idiot! |
RE: Be Honest...
I can yes, kinda, sorta... Well what happened was my brother and I had the same bow case when I was in high school. To make a long story short, I went to the building and grabbed his bow and didn't realize it till I got on top of the mountain and opened the case. Luckily my buddy was with me and I went with him. Unfortunately for him he missed a six point, that I spotted and told him it was about 40yds away. After he missed I asked him which pin he shot. He said 30yd pin. :) Oh well.
Oh yea, got a new bow case so it wouldn't happen again. |
RE: Be Honest...
Forgot my breech plug at the truck last muzzleloader season.
Was wondering why the ramrod when down farther than normal when I loaded it. Found out real quick when I tried to get the 209 primer in the plug (no plug). |
RE: Be Honest...
Never! I will admit that once I climbed into my stand and climbed up/shimmied up the tree, secured myself and my seat, got my mask on and my release on my wrist...then reached down for my pull rope only to realize i forgot to tie it off on my stand! So, back down the tree to get the rope and then back up...I was tired by the time I was all done and ready to hunt...and pissed! But I never forgot my bow!
|
RE: Be Honest...
Inever forgot my bow or my release but i feel really stupid on this one i haveforgotmy quiver once!!!!
|
RE: Be Honest...
dad and i were done pheasant hunting, put the shotguns in there cases and on top of the old station wagon. pack the rest of the stuff and drove home about 2 hour trip. got home and the shotguns were still on top of the car. thank god there was a luggage rack on it.
shot some 3d targets with my bowat a buddy's house. went hunting the next morning and got in the stand and pulled an arrow out, nothing put field tips. sucked bad. |
RE: Be Honest...
No, but I've climbed into my treestand, settled in with my gear stowed and at the most inappropriate moment discovered my bow was still attached to the tow line at the bottom of my stand.
What made it inappropriate was after sitting in the stand for 20 minutes, I saw a doe approaching at 20 yards and reached down for the bow and discovered it wasn't in the stand with me. Proceeded to pull the bow up while the doe looked the other way but she spooked and ran offstoppingat 75 yards. I grunted and the doe came back in offer a 25 yard shot which I connected on and bagged my first bow kill insix years. I've twiceforgotten my release backat home which is 300 miles from camp. Now I travel withthree releases each stored in different locations of my hunting gear. |
RE: Be Honest...
Drove 4 hours without remembering to bring my bullets once! Couldn't find any at the stores either.I became an observer for a weekend.
|
RE: Be Honest...
DuringGun season I use a Remington 870 pump and kept the lock/key in my pocket "all" the time during the season. Well not this morning, about 45 mins from home I'm trying to be McGiver and pick the lock. Needless to say I was not successfull. I drove home and didn't get into the woods until after sun up. Nothing harvested that day.
Now the extra key is tied to the handle of my gun case. |
RE: Be Honest...
Well I never forgot my bow But my Nephew did! Last yr. He drove over an hour to our hunting area. when it was just about time to head out he opened up his bow case and to his suprize there was no bow? He took it out of the case to take look at it the night before and just forgot to put it back in.The rest of us went out hunting, And he sat back down in the truck and went to sleep:D.
I myself have forgot my release back at the truck, Last yr. I climb upa tree in my summitt climber and forgot to tie my pull rope to my bow:eek:that would not have been so bad but it was only about a hundred degree`s out[:'(] |
RE: Be Honest...
