Ok, never mind I checked my books and did some searching. Its a good shot with a gun and a poor shot with a bow due to the small vital area between the shoulders and with the great possibility of hitting the shoulder/bone and deflecting the arrow.
My bad, im glad I found this thread though as I always thought it was an ok shot placement. Better I found it now then after the fact.

Well agian, I never take shots like that but in the heat of the moment as you said. I just honestly thought he would continue right to me and walk up to me or wind me, and then not see him the rest of the season. Again, not an excuse for a bad shot though.

lupus, I'm assuming that you were in a tree when you took that shot. Because there is no way you could get a lung, heart and hit where the neck and body meet from the ground. That would be different all together. Anyway, I hope he found him.

I am hoping to hear from this guy to see if he found his buck or not.I also believe that if the arrow was sticking out quite a ways then he may have lodged it into his shoulder blade. In this case it wont be a fatal wound but it will hobble him. Also it will be hard for him to get that arrow out but he will if he hasnt already.Good luck and hope to see some pic's if you find him.

I didn't want to take a shot like that but I didn't think I had much of an option, maybe that was my mistake.
I learned that I won't take a shot on the last day that I would have passed on the first day. I won't take a shot at a buck that I wouldn't take on a doe.
hopefully you'll find your deer, good luck...
