RE: must read anti deer hunting article! wow! unreal!
I wouldn't worry about this letter too much. Although alot of people think the antis are super powerfull and are on the verge of outlawing they aren't. Not in this country. The wild life is too healthy and the hunters comprise too big of a chunk of the people.
Try and find a anti hunting web site that gets 1/4 the traffic this one does, it's not going to happen. In the state of Ohio they even made it illegal to protest or harass hunters. This is because a coupple years ago a bunch of antis ambushed some hunters in a parking area, one of the antis yanked a guys bow from him and proceeded to smash it on the pavement. I belive the anti won a free beating and a trip to jail. Ever since if the ranger sees a protester or some dumb @$$ banging pots and pans it's off to jail and a fine. Good luck this year Jim |

It's against the law to harass hunters in Washington State too but the governors wife is an ANTI and WDFW agents are intimidated and pressured to do nothing.
It's too bad this IDIOT isn't aware that habitat encroachment is the most serious threat to ALL wildlife. Notice they weren'' quite stupiud enough to include an e-mail address for a response. Bowhunter |

The hunting community in relation to the overall population is about 7%- hardly a big chunk. The hunting tradition in Wisconsin is as strong here as anywhere in the country in my opinion, but I see anti-hunting sentiments all the time. Antis are invading our public conservation hearings every year in attempts to be voted onto the Conservation Congress. This board proposes rules and regulations changes regarding the outdoors to our Natural Resources Board. And 2-3(?) years ago an anti actually was voted onto this board after they used delaying tactics that prevented nominations and voting to occur after the midnight hour when most true sportsmen had gone home. By the time they realized what happened, it was too late. The CWD epidemic has become an issue in the midwest. Some hunters have decided to give up hunting and license sales are down 30%. But that's a whole 'nother subject! Urbanization and hard to find hunting land has caused some to give up our sports and leave our youth without someone to teach them a valuable tradition. Every year more and more legislative bills are being introduced to stop different forms of hunting. Most don't pass, but some do. I realize you're referring to the U.S., but when was the last time you hunted for spring bear in Ontario? I used to go to Ontario, but not anymore! That move caught sportsmen off guard and showed no one, but no one is immune to the anti movement. In Wisconsin, bear hunters are constantly under attack- especially the houndsmen. We've had difficulty implementing a dove season as the antis have successfully stopped a season - at least for the time being. I don't intend to sound as if everything is all gloom and doom. Actually, the recent anti movements have awakened sportsmen's groups and made them realize we are vulnerable if we choose to ignore the antis. The non-hunting community is the deciding factor and we as sportsmen need to respresent ourselves with class and educate others by disproving the antis' lies! In the end, I believe our traditions will continue, but to think we're untouchable is ridiculous!!! |
RE: must read anti deer hunting article! wow! unreal!
The idea that the hunting public makes a strong majority is foolish. Until the hunter begins to use the system the way the anti-hunting groups have, we are in danger of extinction.

I don't understand how some of you can call this woman uneducated and foolish as the article is well written and gets her point across very well. Like it or not some of what she says is true which is why states in my area are changing the regulations. For example NJ now has the "earn a buck" system along with antler restrictions throughout much of the state. PA has introduce antler restricitions and provided many more doe tags and made the doe season longer and coinciding with buck season. The hunting pressure driving deer to jumping through windows is a little much, but some of the other things she brings up hold water and are currently being addressed by game commissions.
