Which fletching style do you prefer for hunting?
#1
Im thinking of buying a fletching jig in the near future. I heard Bitzenberger is the brand to buy. can you adjust the degree you want the fletchings to be or do you have to buy each clamp made specifically for straight, 1 degree offset, or helical?

I've always shot offset vanes but now that I have a drop-away I'm going to try some helical. Probably won't make much difference but it's worth a try.

Every time I've gotten helicals each individual arrow is amazingly consistent, but my arrows won't group together as close as offsets. Currently I can't use helicals anyway.
Straight Fletch

Does Not Rotate in Flight

Rotates Slightly in Flight

Rotates Dramatically in Flight
Straight
- Fastest Flying Vane Configuration
- Least Amount of Air Resistance
- Works with Any Arrow Rest
- Minimal Fletching Clearance Problems
- Less Stable at Long Distances
- Provides Less Stabilization for Broadheads
- Best Used in a Well-Tuned Bow
Offset
- Provides More Stabilization for Broadheads
- Only Some Air Resistance in Flight
- Works with Most Arrow Rests
- Stable Flight to Moderate Distances
- May Cause Fletching Clearance Issues
- Some Loss of Arrow Velocity
(Most Popular Choice)
Helical
- Superior Stabilization for Broadheads
- Best Overall Arrow Flight at Long Distance
- Increased Overall Accuracy
- Arrow Corrects Attitude in Flight
- Notable Loss of Arrow Velocity
- Fletching Clearance More Problematic
I borrowed this from huntersfriend.com. They have been so helpful to me in the past, I pay a lil' more $ to use them even if I can find a slightly better deal. They have great, in depth, tutorials on all aspects of bow hunting.
