I am in Jacksonville Fl and have a quota hunt for a WMA nearby. I took my 7 year old daughter out with me (just to walk the main paths and see what was moving) and was sadly disappointed when we couldn't drive on the WMA, probably to keep poachers out. Anyway, I have seen ariels and topos of the land, but could not get anywhere up near where I wanted to see on foot. I did see some signs, and was showing my girl how to spot deer paths...and spooked one out. So it was a good day in that I got her in the woods and she saw some real nature...but I was about 5 miles short of where I want to set upshop.
Question, how do you know where to set up shop without ever seeing the area? Not only that, I have the second week quota...so there is a good chance if I found"the" spot, it would bespoiled by the time my turn came.
Regardless, I am very happy my daughter has some real experiences to share...she saw armadillos, identified deer/hog marks (even saw two white flags outside of the hunting spot).

I guess the most important part of the hunt has already taken place. I look forward to the day my little girl is old enough to spend a day in the woods with me.

Yea I took mine alot with me when they were younger but now they like boys instead of dad. I figure maybe someday they might want to go again but if not it will be some memories for them.

one of the wma's i hunt only allow you in the day before the hunt but we can park and ride bikes to go scoutin'...it's a pain but it seems to help in the long run...most everyone hunts pretty close to the main roads so i go waaaaay out...it works for me...it just sucks ridin' bikes or walkin'.
glad you and your daughter got to share some quality time together...hopefully she'll be huntin' with you before you know it.
