Default any Ar bowhunters got lucky yet?

I didn't see a thing yesterday mornin, but seen a spike yesterday evenin. walked all around my stand. only problem, the spikes were too long to be legal.
I ain't figured out this "less than 2" or at least three on one side law yet. why make a 2" spike legal? I thought the whole idea was to let the smaller bucks walk.
oh, and about this bowhunter havin to do the agfc's job is rediculus!
all the horn measuring, the milkin of does, the pullin of teeth, and checkin for hoof disease(whatever) . how many of you Ar hunters are goin to do all this crap?

I didn't see a dern thing yesterday morning either. It's still kinda hot out for good deer movement. And to go through all that I'll have to kill a deer first. So maybe I'll have to go through it all sooner or later...though it doesn't sound too fun.

My mind belongs to my work...
My heart belongs to my family...

But my soul...belongs to the woods.

isn't the "less than 2 inch" rule suppose to allow someone to "accidentally" shoot a button buck without getting in trouble. with this more refined definition, the agfc can now require hunters to add button bucks to hunter's two buck bag limit. the way the rules were written before, button bucks were "illegal" w/ no definition for them, so hunters would tag them as a doe, and i know of hunter, which i chided him for it, left a button buck in the field as he thought he would be fined for killing one. stupid, didn't know the rules, but this year, there will no excuses on where a button buck goes on your tag. it counts against your two bucks.

yes, i'm not excited about the biolgist work that we are required to do. if it helps our herd and produces healthier and bigger deer in the long run, then i'm for it.

haven't been hunting yet. thought i'd wait until the hot weather got out of here.

I took a 5 point yesterday evening, on a trail leading from a bedding area to a small pond. He was a 4x1,which I have never seen before. On his right side he was a perfect 8 point, but on his left he just had a spike. He wasn't broke off either, just a spike on that side. Depending on how you look at it, it is either ugly or unique. I prefer to look at it as &quot;having character&quot;. I told my Father in Law that I took him to cull him out and considered it a management buck, but he knows me better than that. He knows I am thrilled with taking that little buck. The Q2 was whisper quiet, the steel force premiums did their job and the buck was on the ground in a few seconds and probly 60 yards from my stand. Great hunt.

Ptone, if i understand it right, it's the hunters responsibility to do all that stuff. I guess we're then supposed to take it to the check station. which causes another problem- the main check station close to my house, has said he will no longer be checkin!

congrats wingshooter on your 5'er. we got a bunch of them funny lookin deer down here to.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I haven't connected yet. I let one of my buddies come down and visit and he killed two does off of the &quot;honey hole&quot; opening day. I had a 3 a 6 and an 8 feed around me for 30 minutes last night but no shots and had a mama and a little one under me this morning but let them walk. The gathering of info on your deer is optional. You don't have to do it. The check stations don't have to either, it is optional for them also. The AGFC is urging checkstations to do it but there apparently has been quite a bit of backlash so they changed the provision to make it optional.

It is my understanding that it is optional this year, and mandatory next year.
