Normal for here(So.In.) would be about 60-120 on the hoof . If they look like they'll fill a smoker then drill one . Older ,larger does can be tough and gamey , take what looks tastiest .

I look for 1 1/2 year old does they arethe tastiest beside fawns.I usually let the older does go.They will keep the young ones in the same general area where they are used to bedding.Besides they are the ones to come into estrus first and usually earlier sometimes in Oct.So they are always the first to have bucks following them.

Kevin where in Southern Illinois are you at.I am in Union County

I guess an average 1-1/2 year old doe ranges between 70-140 pounds where I hunt. I hunt several areas and it all depends on their diet. I know the smaller ones are more tender but I like to shoot the bigger ones to get more meat. I also have a hard time shooting small deer because I want them to get a little older.

If we get a chance we take out that old doe. One, they're the big baby machines. An old doe will have 2 and 3 fawns a year, where as a yearling will probably only have one. Secondly, that old doe is the one that'll pick you off 9 times out of 10 when you DON'T want it to happen. If you can take out the old Alpha doe, whack her. They all taste good.

As the others made reference to, it really depends on your area. Average 1 1/2 year old here is about 70 pds dressed. A 2/12 year old is closer to 100, etc....

Welcome aboard to another cheese head. In my area, Antigo WI, they run 60 to 120. Get some meat in the freezer and enjoy. Good luck.
