My version of the European tradition of the "last bite"... I place a bit of vegetation in his (or her) mouth, and piece of the samevegetationin my pocketuntil I kill another.

I have a buddy who lies on the ground and cuddles up with the deer for a couple hours whispering sweet nothings in its ear. Heck he should be out of the looney bin any day now. :D

The first thing my dad told me when we recovered my first buck was that I needed to put the nuts up in a tree for good luck. I've followed this tradition on ever buck since and I know he has too. I'm assuming it came from Grandpa to start with. I'm starting to think it's more of a Wisconsin thing the more I read in this post. I know I have come upon gut piles multiple times during gun season and found them hanging in a tree nearby... so I'm not the only weird one :-) Outside of that, just a simple thanks for the opportunity to have experienced a successful hunt.

Man that's one of the funniest things I have ever heard of. Gastler does your buddy play with the deer's nuts when he's layin' there whispering in its ear.Now THAT would be funny. You northerners are killing me:D

We normally keep killing a deer low key. Many people don't think to highly of hunting these days anyway so we don't really provoke them. We say a prayer, gut it, put the carcass in the dump, go to town to get it made to sausage, and it's done.

....I remove its heart in the field and drink from it. I smear its blood all over my face neck.and head ... .I eat the heart as soon as I can..( sometimes raw) in order to capture the animals soul ..so that he is one with me..I say a prayer for the spirit of the beast
