Default Concern with my Seat o the Pants safety harness

I bought a SOTP harness this year after all of the hype. It is great, comfortable, and easy to put on even in the dark. I have one concern though. While I was in my stand, I had to bend over and look under some foilage in a tree next to me and the waist buckle came unsnapped. I though t maybe it was a fluke and tried it several more times, and it happened every time. After getting out of the tree, I inspected the buckle and it looked fine. However, the tabs that lock into the buckle seems very flimsy. It would come unsnapped with very little pressure. I am going to send Summit an e-mail voicing my concerns and will keep you informed of their reply.

Anybody else have this happen to them?

I've had a couple of quality issues with summit and they have always responded immediatley and have always done the right thing. I'm sure they will fix your problem.

I got an SOP recently too and noticed the very same thing. Post how you make out with Summit please.

I've got a contact at SOP/Summit. He told me the buckle is just for the belt portion and isn't need for a safety aspect. He did offer to send me a new buckle but I can improvise if I want.

I know my old Summit Harness just had a thin rope and a clasp to hook across. The important straps are under you legs and around your shoulders.

I work in contruction and deal with these type (although much heavier duty) style of harness and they preach to us that everything be buckled. I can't see where that it wouldn't have a negative effect if the waist buckle were to come undone. Maybe someone at Summit can explain it to me. It's pretty unnerving to know that it could potentially fail when you need it most.

I have tried my SOTP harness a couple times since reading this thread and cannot get the buckle to unhook no matter how hard I try.

I only have a 32" waist so not much hangs over the buckle and I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I feel very confident that my harness will keep me safe.

I got another email from my contact at Summit. He says that if anyone is having trouble with the buckle you are to contact Summit.

I emailed him the other day and he replied the same thing that you did on here. He also said he would send me a new male end of the buckle. I presented my side of the argument back to his reply and have not heard back from him.

Yeah Atlasman, my wife said the same thing about the belly over the buckle thing.
