I went out last night to shoot some and I was happy at how tight that my groups were. I was putting 2 out of three in a circle on a block target which I'm guessing is about 1 1/2 inches.Usually I can hit tight to the dot but for some reason I rarely hit it.Now I've been shooting for a lot of years and have killed quite a few deer but for some reason when I'm shooting at a dot I can seem to consistantly put arrows in it. So how consistant are you. NO BS either.

I started shooting alot of 3-d this year and found I have the same problem with hitting the dot on a target. The problem I found I had was that I could still see the dot which meant I was not covering it up with the pin. I couldn't figure it out because on 3d targets I would shoot dead on but always on the edges of the dots on the target.
You might be doing the same thing.

I am pretty consistent but I would say that I am just an average shooter anymore. I can typically reach around my groups with my thumb and my forefinger out to 30 yards and I start to open up some after that. I have an occaisional flyer that's 3-5 inches off but that only happens every couple of hundred shots. It's not real uncommon for me to have a 1" - 2" flyer. I probably have one of those every 20 shots or so.

Without shooting all year long, I can consistantly (29 of 30) put three arrows inside of a coffee cup at 20 yards, which is 3" dia.
I just found out last week, though, that my arrows were under spined, so we cut 1 1/2" off of them and I seem to be grouping much tighter now. I still need to buy stiffer arrows when I shoot these up, but there was definite improvement. I put my broadheads on Wednesday night and after adjusting my sites, I put three inside a 1" group, using separate dots. I can't say I can do that consistantly yet, but I was very stoked. A properly tuned bow and arrows to match it, makes all of the difference.

At 20 yards I can put 6 arrows in about a 2" group. I try not to shoot at the same dot because it is expensive. At 30, it's about 3" and at 40 it's about 5" That is if my shoulder isn't hurtin and I don't pull a flyer. (I've had rotator cuff surgery and want to shoot my compound as long as I can pull it back.) I noticed that I shoot better if I pretend that the target is a monster buck and I only get one shot at it.
The problem I have at 30 yards and out is my pin is .29" and really bright. I try to focus on a 1" dot but that pin just covers up everything. I'm sure it won't be a problem with a brown background!
