I started shooting alot of 3-d this year and found I have the same problem with hitting the dot on a target. The problem I found I had was that I could still see the dot which meant I was not covering it up with the pin. I couldn't figure it out because on 3d targets I would shoot dead on but always on the edges of the dots on the target.

You might be doing the same thing.
