How high have you been ?

How high have you been ?
In your treestand ? LOL.
I have been up to 60 ft. in my Doc's Recliner.
Did it just for the heck of it.
At first it's kind of scary but once you get used to the height, it's actually quite a rush!
I don't usually go over 30' with around 20' being the norm for me.
I figure, one might possibly survive a 20' drop.
But a 60' drop...
Come pick up the pieces, lol.
I once attended a Dan Fitzgerald seminar and he said, he used to regularly climb up to 60' in his treestand.
And without a safety belt!
I wouldn't trust too many stands beside the Recliner or Tree Lounge to go that high though.
To me, bowhunting is a little impracticle at 60' because of the angle of the shot but I see no problem with hunting with a rifle at that height if you're so inclined.
And if you want that rush, it's there, lol.
So, how high has everyone else been ?
Sag.

RE: How high have you been ?
Sag,
Remember hearing about the comet impact that caused the extinction of the Dinosaurs??......You don't want me hitting the ground from 60 feet up!<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I have a 20' hoist rope, and when my bow lifts off the ground, it's time to lock her off........I will say that I've never been comfy in trees, but since going to the Summit climbers with the bar in front I'm practically like a squirrel on steroids. I think I could do 30ft comfortably now, but I've not really seen a need for it.

20-22 ft tops. Mostly around 15-18. Matt I hear you about getting used to that bar across the front. When you get into a stand without it, you don't want to go 3 feet off the ground.
Some things are true whether you believe them or not.

LOL Sag...and LOL Matt...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
Same as Matt for me, I have a 25' rope and I climb until I feel the bow come off the ground so I'm usually at 25' from platform down.
I say usually because I have been higher and I have hunted from lower heights depending on the prevailing wind and tree canopy. Sometimes getting high limits because of branches.
I have been, oh maxed at around 35'....I've been higher on poles but that's my job, not my passion.

RE: How high have you been ?
I usually go up till my platform is 24-26' from the ground. Depending on cover or terrain, I will go as low as 15', or as high as I have to. I get a little jumpy past 35', so I try to stay below that.
I accidentally walked off the platform once at 16', I was extremely lucky and walked away without even being sore.

RE: How high have you been ?
I have one stand over 30 feet but it's a little too high for bow, and that's all I use stands for. Usually 15-20 ft is about right for me. I like to be up high. None of my hunting buddies like using my stand because they're so high. But they'll use them as long as they have a saftey belt. I've never used one, even though I really do need to. I've jumped off of trees at 15 ft, maybe as high as 20, but it hurt. Couldn't do it now, I'm not as young and would probably hurt myself unlike when I was younger, when jumping off a house or barn wasn't a big deal.
