The hunt raffle is a good idea, but it would never go over with my
family (it is family land) they are really particular about having
other people hunt here. They don't even like us to bring friends
over.

And, spot lighting is very illegal in MS. Even if they are
considered varmits, and subject to termination with extreme prejudice
year round on private land, the hunting laws (i.e. legal shooting
times) must still be followed.

And lastly, even though they reek, and are rather difficult to dress
because of their thick, tough skin, they are really good eating.
I think I have 5 whole pigs in the freezer right now just wating to be
Bar-B-Qued. We put them whole in a big smoker and then slather
them in homemade sauce . Man is it good

Any reason why you can't put a 3-4 foot fence around the feeder/ mineral block areas to keep the hogs out, but the deer can easily jump it?

I like DampLands idea.Anybody ever tried this method?I have the same problems but with raccoons.I wonder if it would keep raccoons out as well?

Doubt you would want to built the fence that would keep hogs out. I'm not sure a lot of people realize just how much of a problem hogs are and are going to be in the not so far future. They can breed from 6 months of age, can have up to 3 litters a year with up to a dozen or so piglets each time. They negatively impact turkey as well as deer. I know several people who are having trouble with too many hogs. One guy thought it would be neat to have some hogs on his land and actually put 4 or 5 on his land a few years ago. Just like you, now a roll of film on his game cam is 22 pics of hogs and 1 or 2 with deer. We have trapped a bunch of them and not seemed to make a dent. I personally think you should kill as many as you can.

I think if you are not going to let anybody but "family" hunt it, you are going to have a real problem with hogs.

I think the only real shot at truely getting rid of them would be to go to traps, snares, and other things that work around the clock with out your needing to be there.

I don't think just family can put in the time to really hurt a hog population. You could always just give up and enjoy the hog hunting?

You might just want to have a few guys come out and do some hog shooting for you. This is a great place to network, and there are lots of guys here who wouldn't want anything in return, wouldn't expect to get any free deer hunting, and would be delighted to come over and shoot up some of your problem hogs.

Who knows, you might make a few new hunting buddies, and network your way into some good hunting elsewhere.

There are a lot of fellas on here who wouldn't mind getting a nearby hotel for a night or two, and brushing up on their shooting. Most of the HNI members are generally pretty decent fellas, and are very courteous.

I think your only solution is to kill off the hogs. If you poison a foodsource, it may get to your deer. Trapping them is too time-intensive.
