No luck

Well, I went to go check my trail camera and tenstring traps today. The camera did not take any pictures, nor did the string traps notify me of any deer activity. I decided tocheck out my second spot. I did see one track on the way down, but it was old. I saw several raccoon tracks and a few coyote tracks, but no other deer tracks. I decided to set up four more string traps. Instead of the usual ten foot string traps, I decided to make them twenty-five yards. I will go back in a few days to check them. I do have some good news though. On the hike down there, I saw some fox feces with persimmon seeds in it. Hopefully there is a persimmon tree nearby.

what other availible food sources do you have in the area for the deer to be travaling to.
perhaps they are not going to be in the area you were just in because there is no reason to be there.
just a guess from what you have posted...

Definitely keep up your spirits. It always takes awhile to pattern deer in any given area....and once you think you have them down then they up and change. I expect to see a major shift in travel patterns in the next two weeks. It always seems to happen around the 1st of Sept. each year.

The hot weather must have something to do with it .I have 2 cams out and in 7 days I got 20 pics. Most were young deer ( does&fawns and small bucks) . There still fun to see but not exactly what I was after.

Don't feel bad Zak, I'm not getting much activity on my cams either. Nothing but does and fawns so far. One pic of a decent buck, but not the guy that I'm after. I think I'm having the same problems you are - the food sources on my land just aren't that great right now. All of the corn looks pretty worn out due to the lack of rain this year, and I literally have ZERO beans on any of my land up here. Right now my camera is near an alfalfa field the deer are using pretty regularly, but still no buck photos. I'm giving it one more week before I do a little bit more scouting and possible move my camera again. Hang in there bud, the deer are there somewhere. It seems like this time of year they're either there, or their not. 2 months from now they'll be a little more spread out and once the rut hits anything can happen. Just keep an eye on those funnels and you'll be set for the fall.
