If in doubt, dont shoot! Nothing will make you feal worse than making a bad hit. Keep those shots under 25yds till you're shooting a little better.

I think we all went through that. I would say if you can't consistently put it in the kill zone at 30 don't attempt to at this point...stick with 20 yards. Practice some more and you'll be able to strecth it out if you like, many guys won't shoot over 20 yards! Also don't over analyze what might happen, focus on the shot presented and relish in the fact you are out hunting earlier than gun season.

My first kill was 18 yards... a bit high but caught both lungs, down within 100 yards. Since then I have taken deer out to 35 yards, I have made some great shots and not so great shots. I have even lost an animal, which still gets my goat today.

Remeber have fun and if the shot is not their don't take it, cause 5 minutes from then you may have the perfect shot presented to you.

Good Luck!!!!!!

Form your statements you seem to be ready, what you are not ready for is the &quot;Quickening&quot; that rush of adrenaline cursing through you. Turning you into a quivering bowhunting camofluaged piece of jello... <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>...But good luck to you.

the fact that you worried about it means your on the right track.no hunter wants a bad shot, that is &quot;no ethical hunter&quot;.do all you can to minamize the chance of a bad shot,practice-practice-practice.if 20 yards is all you confident in shooting, then limit your shots to 20 yards.never go beyond your limits,(regardless of how big the buck is)and you shouldn't have a problem.

Sounds like you shoot like me.....I'm not sure I'm ready for 30 yard shots either....I think I will try to get a few more kills at 20 yds or less before I try a 30 yd. shot...I think though if you get a broad side 30 yd. opertunity, go ahead and draw, and if every thing feels good, try it! Maybe it will work! Good luck

I agree with the others, If your not 100% sure of your shot, don't shoot, when in doubt, don't shoot. Know your effective shooting range and keep all shots with in that distance. Your fears are valid, too many people shoot beyond their effective range and that is when bad shots occur. I admire you in knowing your limitations and I hope you keep that good judgement when the deer stand just out of range....

Confidence is a major player in shooting a bow, especially at live game, you owe the animal you intend to shoot to be lethal, I'm confident you'll succeed, know you can and when that animal is within your yardage, keep the confidence, pick a hair and nail it.
