Default First 3D Shoot. Comments and Ideas?

I was just in my first 3D shoot this past weekend. It was at a local shop and was one of their championship shoots. It was a 2 day shoot. Thats not common is it? Anyways, the shoot was with 25 targets. I hear most are with 30 and this shops usually is but he said he cut back do to the extreme heat here in texas and the number or people playing. I was in the BH Novice being my first time and my setup. I have a matthes fx with bodoodle rest and trophy ridge sight at around 31" and 70lbs. The first day I shot a 212 out of 300 on the 25 targets. I screwed up the first few shots and barely hit the target getting the minimum points. I haven't shot at an animal target in a while, just got a block, so my ranging was a little off. The next day I shot a 248 on the 25 targets. I did alot better even with some somewhat severe wind. There where some shots that where wooded but the animal was in the open and when the arrow cleared the brush it had some drastic movement. But I still managed to compensate. Anyways, I was just wondering how this sounded to some of yall being my first shoot and all. I've wanted to get into the 3D shooting for a while just never had the time. Any advice for getting deeper into the 3D arena?

Well the first thing that jumped out at me is that you did make a significant improvement in a very short time frame. Either you were really off the first day or you really just learned something from that first day of shooting. In either case I would offer my congratulations as it seems you did quite well.

In my neck of the woods, shoots are typically one day and consist of 30 targets....but that tends to vary.

Sounds to me you done really well for your first shoot, Ive shot 3D for almost 10 years and most of the shoots we go to are 2 days you can shoot eather day, and we shoot 40 targets, have a couple that are 50, and one that is 86 shots on 86 targets, thats a long day of shooting you know you done something after that, but anyhow sounds like you done a good job my hats off to you, glad to have another 3Der on the site. good luck in future shoots

Most of the shoots around here are 40 targets as well. We have multiple stakes for different equipment. Open class is 50 yards and in. Release class is 45 yards and in. Hunter class is 35 yards and in. Fingers class is 35 yards and in.It is a blast.

We have 20 target shoots here in TN and N. AL that I have been to. They are alot of fun, and have helped me judge distance much better than sitting in the woods and ranging it. Shooting a 248/300 is great for around here, especially for a new commer. 250 would be considered "shooting even" or averaging 10 on each target, and Ive been doing it for a couple of months and havent shot even yet. Keep at and have fun.
