last year i was was talking to some guys about this
and they told me that the head shot is the best.
so last year, the third week in the season.
low and behold a doe five yards out walking under me.
I took the shot with a steelhead mech.and wow,like
it was hit with a 30-06 down in its tracks.
the steelhead went in 6 to 7 inches.
one thing about it if you miss it a miss
no deer losed. hit and no tracking.
that is the only shot i would take at a deer walking
under me.

If you are only taking head shots at a deer with a bow, you have NO business being in the woods PERIOD! That is one of the most pathetic statement I've ever seen on here.

Have you ever seen a deer hit through the jaw or snout? I starves to death over a period of weeks. If you don't have a good shot, you shouldn't take ANY shot.

that is true Wimp
I have seen deer shot through the jaw with a rifle period
we all can make a bad shot. the best shot can hit
a branch and go into the guts.
that is why i shot 20 yards and less.
when i lose deer a cant sleep for days.
im 27 and 2 and thats 2 to many.

Yea but if the shot is straight down and ur aimin right at the top of the deers head. The arrow will go thru its brain. How much of a quicker kill can you get?

Too much room for error. Your right Muzzy 125, gut shots happen but with proper woodsmanship, gut shot animals should be recovered. You won't recover an animal shot through the snout, jaw, etc and that deer is going to die. It is a very low percentage shot, one I say isn't worth taking. IF the deer is under your stand, the vitals should be a piece of cake if you consider a head shot easy.
Most archers have trouble hitting an area the size of the vitals, why on earth should anyone attempt a smaller target?

muzzy 125, I must agree with the others, in that it's a low percentage shot. Miss a couple of inches and you're in the snout. That deer is gone, and will probably die an agonizing death. If you "have" to shoot straight down shoot for the spine. Miss the spine and you still have a lung and possibly heart. I'd wait for the deer to move away and present a better shot.
