RE: when do you see your first tree rubs??
Monsterbuckland, I am like you in that I generally don't find rubs until October.....the first or second week. But I attribute part of that due to not getting into the heavy timbered areas. I skirt the edges of crop fields when scouting to look for trails entering the fields so what rubs I might find early are traveling rubs, small saplings and brush.

Here in Mississippi the rut doesn't kick in to around Dec.15 - Jan 1. However, I usually start seing rubs well before then usually in mid to late October. As such, I wouldn't think it is unusual for you to start seing rubs now with the run only about 2 months away.

You will see a few rubs now here in Iowa. The major rubs come in a couple of weeks though, and the rut is in mid-November.

RE: when do you see your first tree rubs??
Guys,
Our bow season opened a week ago and the bucks are really tearing the trees up now (hadn't got to hunt much though-rained practically every day). Where I hunt we have been passing all of the smaller bucks up for the past couple of years and have harvested several does so we should see alot of improvement to the buck/doe ratio. Also the bucks should be getting some size in their racks now. Last year we passed up a couple of 13" wide 8 pters so I'm really looking forward to seeing those deer again (if I can tell that's them when I see them again). I personally passed up a dozen smaller bucks, havesting 2-16" wide 8 pters. Several of the thumb-sized bushes have been rung off, and the woods is filling up with hornings. Deer season IS LOOKING PROMISING FOR THIS YEAR IN NE GA.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Good huntin to you fellas, GB Smack 'em where it hurts! |

Well I am in NJ and I haven't seen any so far. But I know the bucks don't have velvet anymore so they should be some kind of rubs somewhere but not many so far. I think about the first or second week of oct. there will be more.
