This past Wednesday I found some fresh rubs on my way into my stand. This tells me bucks are here, already new that because I saw a nice one sneak thru this morning. The rub line I found has been on the same trail for three years now. Just never been there when the bucks are cruising thru.

As long as kids are having fun shooting, I don't care if I shoot bad

They are rubbing a little now in Virginia but I think it is more to scratch an itch from the velvet than due to the rut.

Right now they're whacking our trees pretty hard. 2 weeks ago they were in full velvet and hadn't touched them. They're just cleaning off some velvet now. Not the serious bush shredding they do later.
