Default RE: Questions for the trophy hunters?

First of all...what is the difference between a meat hunter or a trophy hunter? I try to shoot does every year but I also hold out for what I consider a trophy buck. In Kansas you are allowed only 1 buck per year. I can shoot 4 does I believe but usually don't shoot that many for lack of freezer space and mouths at home that will help me eat it. I hunt two completely different areas in Kansas...suburban area that is nothing but thick timber, and remote farm country. The two spots are about 350 miles apart. I've also hunted other areas in the state in years past. One thing is for sure, in all areas I've hunted there are mature whitetail bucks that if a fella were selective and lucky, could get a shot at. I hold out every year and if one of those shots doesn't present itself, then I still hopefully have been fortunate enough to fill the freezer with doe meat. All of my close friends and hunting buddies hold out every year as well but by no means do we all bag book bucks, in fact, most do not but most if not all see book bucks out of their stands during the season. There are about 25 or so of us that get into a "deer pot" every year. The heaviest deer wins the pot but it pays to 3rd place. All deer harvested are weighed in whether they are bucks or does and whoever shoots the deer that is closest to the average weight gets paid as well. Of that many hunters there are usually only 3-4 bucks that get shot that make the book. I think the deer population in Kansas is about 500,000. IMO there is no reason for a hunter to shoot a small, immature buck in Kansas unless it is their first or they have some other limiting handicap.
