Who here hunts public ground?

Never mind. Looks like imagestation finally went kaput. He's a main-frame 5x5 with split brow tines grossing 162 1/8. I've taken three P&Y'ers in the last four years on public ground.

Just know my area and usually there are about 5 hunters per sq mile in bow and 20 in rifle. No I dont get near public game lands.last year I was on private property next to public land in gun season. 47 people walked by me ,never seen a deer and when I left and criused around the gamelands i counted over 200 cars parked in the Gamelands lot.

I hunt public ground almost exclusively...mostly due to proximity to home and the amount of deer on neighboring properties. I have been fortunate enough to harvest at least one deer every year for the last 5 or 6 seasons.

mobowhuntr: We are lucky to have so much Public ground to hunt on here in Mo. I have a few small private areas that are 15 min from my house, but for the most part I like to Fall turkey hunt, and once again bowhunt the large tracks of public ground near by.

Last year I hunted public ground 100% of the time. I have a little private land to hunt but my dad likes to small game hunt so I need quite a bit of land so public is the only answer.

I have hunted some public wildlife management areas (WMA) here in Virginia without much success. 9000 hunter to 1 deer ratio!! [:@]
So, I started going further out into state and federal forests to get away from the crowds.

Edit: Go back up a few threads and read Cardeer's post and you'll know what I mean too. If you hunt public land with a bow during the week, maybe, just MAYBE you might have some success. But not on any given Saturday. Worse yet is rifle season.... I love the quote I remember someone saying onetime about a Saturday morning during rifle season on a public land WMA: "....it was unbelieveable. I got there real early and was up in my stand before sun up. Once the sun came up, I look out over the ridge and saw so much blaze orange, it looked like a pumpkin patch!
" Now, to me, that speaks volumes about public land hunting during rifle season! [:'(]

have hunted it in the past, shot a few deer in bow there. will try it again hopefully this year. nat'l forest land. problem is that I am always seeing deer on my property, so it is hard to justify the 45 min drive. of course there are some monsters down there
