RE: horse dies of west nile in my town, are deer next?
Biologist put out a report for waterfowl hunters to take percautions also. They said ducks and geese can carry the virus, but don't die from it. The article didn't say anything about eating the affected animal if it would transfer to humans. My guess deer can also carry it. 4 horse in my hunting area in Monticello, MN have died that I know of. With CWD and West Niles out there it would be nice to be able to have the meat tested before we consume. I know my wife would like to know fore sure. She doesn't want to eat venison this year because of the sfuff thats happening and also I would like to know also. They test chickens and beef before its marketed why not venison. I read, I think it was a DNR article or one in the local paper that there is a place that you can have your deer tested for CWD and other diseases for $20 to $25. Thats worth it for me. For now I am using 100% deet against those dang mosquitos! Works good and It doesn't smell hardly at all. Good luck hunters and stay safe.
