Default KRYPTONITE LOCK:)

i just purchased one of these from home depot with the built in lock. a friend of mine had a stand stolen and i was wondering how well these locks work. they have a hell of a design and i do not think i have the lock that u can pick with a pen(reported last week that u can pick a kryto lock with a pen). let me know what u know about this cable lock.

can it be cut???

I had a 5/8 inch one on a stand last winter. Went to take it down after the season and it was gone. So yes it can be cut or picked. Which one happened to me, I don't know but whoever did it made off with steps stand and all.

The one I had used a dial with a combo lock mechanism. I still need to pick up another as it went scooting down the freeway on my way home last year (fell off 4whlrs rack).

Anything is better than nothing. You can help persuade the honest to stay honest, but the true thiefs will rip it in two if they can't steal it.

The Kryptonite Chain Lock is the best one on the market you can get. Its tougher than anything else and I can tell you they didn't cut it unless they had a pair of hydraulic cutters out in the woods. Tell me what kind of lock or take a pic of it and I'll tell you if it can be picked or not. They are only a handful of locks that can't be picked. If it doesn't say Medeco, Multilock, Primus, or ASSA then most likely it can be picked. Get the Kryptonite lock that has the loop on both ends a buy a Medeco Padlock from a local locksmith with the hidden shackle and you will have nothing to worry about.

I've learned from experience that if anyone wants to steal a stand, they will. They will always find a way to pick the lock or cut the chain. And no chain or lock is impossible to pick or cut. If it's a climber, I would bring it in and out of the woods. If it's a ladder stand or one that must be left it the woods, I would use at least two chains, so if someone decides to steal it, they are going to have to work for it.

Brian you sure know your locks. It's too bad you have to worry about them being picked.
