I do mostly elk hunting with a setup that generates fairly low energy, so maxing out on penetration through other means is important to me. I'm pushing a 417 grain BH/arrow combo at 239 feet per second.
Anybody out there have some advice on good cut on contact, 2-blade heads?
Very tentatively, my three finalists are the Magnus Stinger, G5 B-52, and Modoc Warrior.

I have killed several elk with the Modoc warriors. One thing about the Modocs is that you have to weigh them. Unless they got better in their quality control, the grain weights can be off by as much as 7 grains in either direction. All of the elk fell within hearing distance however I was not impressed with the blood trail of the modocs . I switched to the Phantom which is a division of Muzzy. These have better tolerances and also have a bleeder blade. They are a cut on impact style 2 blade. I killed an elk with one last year and it left a great blood trail. The bull that I took 2 years ago was quatering heavily away at 15 yards. I settled the pin on the outside of the rear quarter. The arrow entered and traveled the entire length of the elk. Cut on impact is the way to go on bigger game. I don't like to switch gear so I use the same for deer. Nothing but pass throughs. Sounds like your heading in the right direction. Put er in the boiler room and you will have no problems. Good luck on your upcoming elk hunt. There is nothing like hearing them big boys screaming in your ear. Oh by the way. Our Wal-Marts here have all archery stuff on clearance. I bought a whole bunch of the phantoms for 7.00 a 3/pack. For these I usually pay 18.00- 20.00 3/pack at the archery shop. You might want to look.

Well, I was going to start another thread asking about this...but this falls right into what i was going to ask.
I saw a set of phantoms b-heads at Wal-mart and decided to pick them up for a try since they were marked down for only $10 (at the end of archery season). They are cut-on-contact, 100g. Does anyone have experience with these and can comment on their quality and/or flying characteristics??

I've used Steelforce 100gr BH on moose . This will be the 4th season for them and they're still fine need sharpening but are a very durable BH.

DP007, I found that they fly awsome out of my bow. Give em' a try. If they don't work for you it sure is cheaper to try now. I bought about 12 packs of them. At that price how could I go wrong. I killed an elk with one last year. We won't talk about the trophy non-typical mule deer. I didn't even give the broadhead a chance to do its job. My brother-in-law did however kill a nice late season mulie with one while I was hunting with him. I picked up a 6in doinker there also (which normaly sells for 20 some dollars) for 6.00. And for the guys that shoot wisker biskets, they have those for 13.00

The B52's and the stingers are both excellent. I have some Modoc heads and as soon as the weather breaks they are first on my list to test. Muzzy phantoms and steel force are other heads to consider. The modocs look to be pretty good, and I would have had them done, but somehow they got " lost " on my desk!

I picked up doinker as well but for about $9. It isn't the best stabilizer out there but the price was right and it did indeed balance my bow, take out some vibration, and help to increase my accuracy.
