Default Help for older eyes?

I have heard that the varifier can help those of us who need to keep a pair of reading glasses in every room of the house. And have trouble with pins blurring.I talked to a shop that sells them. They told me it helps some guys and some see no better with it. Has anyone tried this out, and found it to help?
