Default Do you need Scentblocker clothing or....?

Hey all,
This will be my first year bow hunting. I need to get some Camo soon. Do I need to get scentblocker or scentlok clothing? Orcan I get a camo from Cabelas or Bas Pro Shop or something a little less expensive? Do the scent elimination sprays work just as well as a scentlok or scentblocker clothing?

Big hype IMO and WAAAY overpriced. Regular camo, keep your clothing as scent free as possible, hunt the wind, and get up high in trees. HCH

I agree with hardcorehunter....my hunting buddy and I just use normal hunting close...nothing expensive and fancy. We just keep them sprayed down with scent spray and store in plastic garbage bags. When we are out at my hunting property to bow hunting, we then spray them down one last time. This has more than worked for us, as we have had deer as close as five yards from us and my buddy shoot a 12 point just last year! Our hunting stands are about 12 feet off the ground as well.

I just recently got a scent-lok jumpsuit and haven't had a chance to use it yet. In theory itmakes sense, but I was told I still need to use scent spray and keepit stored away from other elements. I like to keep my hunting clothes in the big plastic bins, or the XXL ziploc bags (I'm talking HUGE ziplock bags that can be found at wal-mart).

I would like to know if anyone has had the wind blowing at a direct path to deer while wearing scent-lok clothing and not had the deer smell them...

You can do whatever money will buy, but they will still wind you. There's some merit to "reducing" the overall scent, but it only takes a couple parts per million of human scent to blow the deal, so not sure how-much some of this stuff actually helps, if at all.

i agree lone wolf, i think that people buy into too much marketing and products that in the end really don't ensure one is going to be a better hunter... bowhunting has reached the same plane as golf; soon there will be infomercials selling gadgets that promise the buck of a life-time w/ three easy payments of $89.99. i do not believe that scent-lok clothing will increase your odds what-so-ever if you take the proper precautions such as washing w/ non-scent soup & bagging your clothing until you get to your hunting field.

I agree with the wolf and walt. But I also have had some deer come in down wind of me when I had all my scent lock stuff on. They smelt somthing and froze and weren't realy sure what to make of it and gradually walked away quietly(not to spooked). I could have shot these deer. I've also have not worn my scent lock things and had deer smell me and turn quickly and leave becuase they knew instantly,"ohhh **** human Im out".
I think it may come in handy if that big boy crosses my down windsidand "thinks" he smells something stops and stomps his foot a couple of times andgives me time to make the shot before he leaves.

great point, but what are the odds that it would have happened any different had you had non-scent lok on and washed in the proper fashion... it will never be know

Walt,
I go through the same rigourse routine every time I hunt. I had washed in proper fashion, like always. Non sent shower, deoderant, shampoo, detergent for my clothes. Everything was washed and non scented in proper order. I even put on not scent lotion that is supposed to kill bacteria that you generate later on. I sprayed everthing,"like always"with scent spray too.I even wash my arm guard, fany pack and release strap every couple times I hunt with my clothes. Everything is also stored in scent lock bages as well.

I was just giving an example that I have witnessed with my own eyes. Take it for what its worth.
