I needed a rangefinder for both archery and varmint hunting. I purchased the Bushnell 800 compact.

Here's an idea that I use. Get some flagging tape, atleast two colors, three's is great. Mark various trees, (I use a ladder and elevate my flagging tape) So that way when a deer passes my thirty yard tape, but hasn't made it my twenty yard tape, I know instantly how far he is..One less worry, not having to use a rangefinder.

Transplanted, I think that is an OK idea. But if you are on provate land, make sure that you get the owners permission. When people put up tape on my land, it drives me nutts. - A pet pieve I guess.

Anyway, I use a Bushnell Yardage Pro that I was able to get after someone on the board posted a topiuc that JC Penney's had a price miss print on their website. I'm still thankful for that one! Before that I used a cheap manuel focus type that was good to 40 yards. Hey it worked just fine.

I just ordered a Nikon Prostaff 440. I have never used a bushnell, but have used a friends 440 and it works great and seems to get the most favorable reviews from the people on here and on AT.com. I picked mine up for $169 new on ebay. It should be here any day now.

I had a Bushnell 800 for 5 season's but found it to be too bulky ,it finally went on the blitz on me ,so Bushnell sent me a new one for the cost of repair which was 75.00 .I seen the Bushnell pro sport sitting in the casing.I asked if we could work out a trade with some cash ,he told me to take them with no extra charge .Now that's good business both from Bushnell and the store that I bought them from. I like the Pro Sport because it's very compact and can fit in my shirt pocket.
