Good news:
Fishing Regulation Changes

PIERRE, S.D. - Several changes to fishing regulations will affect anglers in 2009.

The Game Fish and Parks Commission took action to clean up language regarding the spearing of game fish. Several anglers had contacted GFP officials asking about the legality of taking Chinook salmon in the fall with a bow and arrow. Bow and arrow will now be a legal method of taking game fish from sunrise to sunset, June 15th to the last day of February in waters already open to spearing game fish.

Rather lame news.

Ocoee Limits Bow Fishing for Children's Safety

(Source: The Orlando Sentinel)By Daphne Sashin, The Orlando Sentinel, Fla.
Dec. 7--OCOEE
City leaders last week approved a law to limit the sport of fishing with a bow and arrow after they determined the unregulated practice posed a threat to children. Under the bow-fishing law, which comes with a $1,000 penalty, the sport may be conducted only between sunrise and sunset and at least 100 feet from any child, marked swimming or picnic area, dock, pier or restricted or residential area. The rule bans the use of crossbows or draw-locking mechanisms.

Seriously? Where do they come up with the 'posed a threat'?? Can you take a kid bowfishing there?

Texas considers changes in Gator Gar harvest.

The department discussed possible regulation strategies that emphasize protection of adult fish, while allowing some limited harvest of trophy fish to ensure population stability while allowing utilization of the resource.
Two possible regulation scenarios were highlighted. The first would consist of issuing tags that would limit the size and/or number of alligator gar an angler could harvest in one year.
The other would involve setting a minimum length limit of 7 feet and a daily bag limit of one.
Under either scenario, harvest through commercial activities would also be restricted.

Looks as if it only applies to South Dakota as far as the salmon.....The other article looks as if it is from Texas

I have bowfished Ocoee a bunch. There is a lake up there with houses all around the banks. Real popular bowfishing lake. Tilapia by the hundreds. I have to assume someone skipped an arrow up onto a lawn or something. Seems like a crazy law. Where does the children thing come in? Had to have been a kid out playing behind one of those houses. The daytime thing must be because of the lights on the boats right in these peoples backyard. Can't figure it out. Any of the residents I ever bumped into up there were happy to see us cause they wanted their bass habitat back. They used to shout from their yards..."Shoot em all" LOL!!!

Some type of incident ahd to have taken place or an anti in one of those big houses had some political pull.
