Carlyle Dam disappointment
#1
If any one is interested in calling the head honcho at the corp of engineers down in the Carlyle area. Contact Christine for contact information.. [email protected] You know the squeeky wheel gets the oil. But be polite about it if you do call, don't want him to think we are some red necks. Well may be some of us are, but try to hide it if you can.

IMO, you all should be contacting the Carlyle Chamber of Commerce as well. Let them know how much visitation (ie - money spent in Carlyle on gas, food, and possible lodging) they are missing because of this.

Robin, I have run that route back when they first stopped us. I contacted the mayor as well. They are all backing the Corp. I used all the angles I could think of. I like to invite Bob Wilkins the guy from the corp to a go shoot for a few hours so he can see for him self. I still might give him a call to see.

Geoff,
Well here is the skinny. Last year and most of this spring we were allowed to bowfish in the main river channel below the dam at Carlyle. Then all of a sudden we started to get ran off by the Park rangers. They said that this area was within a recreation area and no 'projectiles' were allowed. They consider our teathered arrows as projectiles. They will let you bowfish in the old river channel there at the boat ramp, but not in the main river. They have juristriction from the dam to the suspensioin bridge. We are of course trying to fight it, as this is some great big head and carp fishing areas, and a lot closer than Ky. We need to convince them that we are only shooting straight down with heavy 200 # line. Our shots are in feet not yards. Plus the fact of our safety record, of no recorded injuries to anyone. our arrows are no worse than some one slingling out a hunk of lead with some hooks into the river or over the power lines. Well I could go on and on, but that is pretty much the sum of it all.

Johnny b,
Thanks for the explaination of what is happening. Is this a "safety" issue with the Corp's ?
Talked to Christine about this as well.
When the time comes, let me know how I can help.
Geoff
