Default What bow length?

Hi all!

I've often thought of taking up bowfishing, but I'm a little uncertain as to what length ATA it would require. I recently upgraded my bowhunting outfit and wonder if my pse beast 4x4 would suffuce for bowfishing?
It's currently set at 62# but I have the option of turning it down to about 55# I think.

Any thoughts?

The nice thing about bowfishing is any old bow will work, and the older the better. You wouldn't want your good hunting bow covered in blood and slime. 55# compound will work, but might be too much - you don't want the wholearrow to go all the way through the fish. You also want a longer ATA length to avoid finger pinch. I personally prefer and use some cheapy recurves I got off eBay. I had started with an old compound, but it weighed a ton. There are also bows made specifically for bowfishing, but I found it easier to spend $20 on a bow instead of $200, and it shoots fish just as well.

Fishhunter is right on. Longer ATA means less finger pinch. My Firebrand is pretty short and it does pinch my fingers, but mine are skinny and I'm used to it. My two $20 recurves work just as well. 55 pounds is plenty and possibly excessive in some situations for bowfishing. I do pretty well with my 38# recurve.
