when is the best time of year to start bowfishing?

It's easiest to find fish starting around April and May, at least in IL. Warmer climates will have a longer activity period, and may start earlier. Down toward the tropics, and the Southern coastal states, they do it all year. Up North you have tochip a hole in the ice.

when there is no ice is the best time. i think. tried it once last winter here in illinoisbut the arrow wouldnt go through the ice..lol seriously though april is my best time i think may is good too

A few weeks ago we stopped by one of my favorite areas on the DesPlaines. We were surprised to see a lot of shad jumping. Usually when we see the shad jumping there's a gar not too far behind. I'd be out there at night right now if only my boat was finished.
