777 powder
Anyone shooting 777 in an Encore 209X50 mag? I have been trying it and the powerbelts, and I have not had any luck with the powerbelts. I called thompson and they told me to try the shockwave bullets and they were a great help. I have been looking for a reliable source for information about the powder. I hear it is more powerful than the others on the market when used by volume. HELP

RE: 777 powder
Couple of things to add: First I am not a fan of 777 due to the hard fouling ("crud ring") that if forms in my stainless Omega. Next; if you try to shoot maximum loads with Powerbelts they may not be giving you the best accuracy. Most find 80 to 100 grains is about all they can take in most rifles. I get good results with Pyrodex loose and Powerbelts or with American Pioneer Powder and Powerbelts or Black Mag3 (which is my powder of choice now) and Powerbelts. All of these loads are 100gr. or less of powder.

RE: 777 powder
Thanks for the information, I am new to the forum and to muzzle loading this has been a great help. I did shoot some of the shockwave 250 grain this morning and found that they shoot very well with 90 grains of loose 777. Mostly same hole slightly enlarged at 50 yards and about 2" at 100 yards. Had about 15 mph wind so I am satisfied. Our muzzle loading season gives us a week after regular gun season, and this begins on monday, either sex for 7 days. I live in North Louisiana and we even are expected to have 4 days of sub freezing mornings. Better than those days of bugs buzzing your ears.
Thanks again
