Default Green Mountain IBS recall

Didn't know if anyone here had heard of this. Since the barrels are used in trad style guns I thought I would let folks here know.

Per GM's website at http://www.gmriflebarrel.com/

GREEN MOUNTAIN NEEDS TO DO A PRECAUTIONARY RECALL ON SOME OF OUR THOMPSON CENTER DROP IN BARRELS. IF YOU HAVE A BARREL IN THE FOLLOWING SERIAL NUMBER RANGE 026220-027303 PLEASE CONTACT KERRY AT, 603-447-1095 EXT.18 TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE YOUR BARREL RETURNED FOR INSPECTION. THANK YOU AND SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE

I also saw that posted last night on their website looking for new barrel offerings by GM. My 58 is also affected by the recall. I have #026240. I'd hate to lose that barrel. It's such a sweet shooter with conicals, balls and minies even beyond 100 yards. All slip-fit too!... I'm bummed about that. Hopefully it's something minor that can be fixed without pulling off my scope mount & sending it back to get it fixed or replaced.

I already contacted them. I have 2 barrels that are being recalled, a .58 and a .50. I was told there were some nipple threads that were threaded slightly oversized so it apparently only affects percussion barrels and the fix would be to install a new breech plug. GM will send out a pickup tag from UPS and pick up the barrel. I was told they are doing the inspection, fix if needed and shipping back out with a 1-2 day turn around.

re:Sabina

Yep... mine is percussion & being I use a brass nipple guard over the nipple to protect against blowback on the barrel, that would mean two parts flying at me upon ignition... not just one. I'll give em' a call... thanks!

One of mine was in the recall S/N range too...a new .58cal flint barrel they built for me back in the spring...GM told me they went to a new thread tapping process for nipple seats and vent liner seats, and discovered that the height of the threads may not be as high as they should be, with thread edges more rounded than as sharp as they should be...worried about possible blowout, sent me a prepaid UPS call tag...said if that's the case on mine, they'll replace the breech plug.
