An improvement? Probably, but not a great one. The key to the 700ML is a COMPLETE disassembly and cleaning of that bolt after a day of shooting. I think a better improvemnt would be a breech plug such as those Cecil Epp sells for other rifles - one that doesn't allow much, if any, blowback.

Hey, I have a 700 ML and after the first time I took the bolt apart to clean it I started having all kinds of trouble with misfires. It seemed like the firing pin wasnt hitting the nipple. Come to find out I had not reassembled it right...the spring was messed up. Its easy to put it together right once you know how and I've never had a problem since. Check you manual to see if your bolt is assembled right.

I have a remington 700ml also. When I first got rifle it would not fire on first shot. I would recock fire then cap would fire and ignite charge. Seemed like first shot pushed the cap down on the nipple. Second shot was enough to make cap fire. I called a local gunshop and a fellow working there had the same rifle and had experienced the same problem. He told me to remove nipple and try sanding outside of nipple so cap would fit on easier. So I did what he suggested and after second time of sanding and reinstalling nipple I busted 15 caps in a row without misfire. I've had the rifle around 8 years and have not had a misfire since.

hey fellas my 700 mls has 209 priming and i have never had any trouble. it is a 45 cal and 2 pyrodex pellets and hornady sst shoots 2 inch groups at 100 yds

Hey you all, here is my 2cents worth. I have had a m700ml SS, one since they came out originally a long time ago, and a second 26" barreled one I just bought from Bass Pro. I to had the misfire problem with #11's and musket caps. But I have long ago curred that problem. 2 ways this can be done - if you order the Cabela's 209 replacement kit you get a much better Canadian 209 kit, but you also get a stronger main firing pin spring, if I recall the spring is a 26# spring or two you can order a replacement spring from Brownells for a model 700 short action, but order the 27# spring. The original Remington spring is 22# - this is all from memory since I did this so long ago. If anyone is interested in the exact information and or part numbers I can dig that up for you just let me know.

Underclocked is exactly on point you do need to clean the bolt - but I do not think you to completely dissasemble the main spring and firing pin. Get a Remingtoin bolt tool and it just screws right out. clean it, dry it, lube it and put it back together....

I am like sabotloader instead of using the rem 209 kit I bought the one he refers to and have not one problem or misfire. A buddy did the opposite had numerous problems, he just switched to the same kit as me and works like a charm.

Cleaning I as well do like sabotloader, unscrew clean, air dry, grease and slap it together...no probs.

For the cap shooters I too had a few misfires but found when I placed the cap on the nipple if I seated it hard with my thumb the problems were gone unless a bad cap. I also found the rem caps to work better.

I have heard some complaints but once I got fimilar with my rem MLS it has been an excellent ML and I have utmost confidence in the field.
