2 or 3 777 pellets
Sorry if this is old news...
What do you guys load up with? 2 or 3 777 pellets. Just wondering as I'm currently using 2 and it seems like a real nice and easy load that shoots well and is easy on the shoulder |
RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
i'm shooting 2 pellets (100gr.) and my gun, t/c encore 209X50 seems to do the best with, when i first got the gun i automatically wanted to load 3 pellets, then i remembered what an old man that work for dixie gun works told me, on a blackpowder gun its only going to burn so much powder, after that you just throwing a big fireball out the buisness end and waisting powder, he proved the point by standing over a piece of newspaper and firing a 50 cal. hawken, he was shootin 90 gr. of fff, when he went to 100=110 the newspaper started having burnt specs on it, not sure if pyrodex does this or not, but if 2 pellets are shooting fine why make you front loader a killer on both ends?;)

RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
100 grains of powder is all you need. The Pyrodex or T7 folks would love it if everybody used 150, but the deer don't care.
I have shot through deer, end to end, with 100 gr pyrodex under a 435 gr maxiball. |
RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
Only way is throw it down and give it a rip. I will say using loose T7 and 250 gr sst's anything around/over 105 and my accuracy goes. I have settled on 95 gr loose with the 250's for the upcoming season, this provides excellent accuracy and more than enough ballistics returns for my 150 yard max range on deer.

RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
I was shooting two, but have found a real accurate load with 3 pellets and 240gr XTP Mag going over 2050fps before nailing my chrono. I have to use a MMP subbase with this for it to shoot well. You won't believe how much flatter I shoot with 3 pellets over 2. One I am shooting 2" low at 150, the other I am shooting 6" low. You will never know until you try.

Unclenorby, a bowhunter like myself would argue that your a little overkill with your load. You was saying all you need. You don't need a muzzleloader. All you need is a arrow. The rest is just fun after that.

RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
You did not mention which rifle it was that you were considering shooting 150 grains through. The reason I state that is depending on the length of the barrel, a lot of that powder might not even get used up. Shoot a large charge over snow sometime and look at the unburnt powder on the snow.
Anyway, 2 pellets will normally produce better accuracy then 3 most every time. Your rifle from a stress stand point will thank you, your shoulder will not hurt at the end of ten shots, you're less likely tp develope a flinch, and your pocket book will be a much nicer place to look into. :D Just wondering as I'm currently using 2 and it seems like a real nice and easy load that shoots well and is easy on the shoulder Stick with what your doing... Good luck with your rifle and any hunting you might do. |

Bigcountry,
Don't you know that rainbow trajectory with 2 pellets at 10 yards was taking the bullet OVER the chrony in the first place!! You've flattened out your trajectory just enough to kill your chrony.[&o] Say ello to my lillul friend. ![]() |
RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
Prior to buying my Optima Pro, I contacted CVA and asked them this very question.
The tech there said that the rifle will indeed handle 3 pellets, 150gr., but was just a waste. He told me that 100 gr/ 2 pellets is all that is needed to achieve optimum velocity. He also recommended using Powerbelts 245 - 295 rs. |
RE: 2 or 3 777 pellets
sooner, it was the sabot. didn't kill the chrony, but did rock it. I was prepared for with a piece of plexiglass.
Bronko, sounds like the tech has made up your mind for you. I guess you are happy now. I am a little different. I figure whey not try. Won't hurt anything and makes experimenting fun. |
