MsK, where you are located? I would love to come out and see you consistently get 1/2MOA accuracy from a muzzleloader. I have saw a lot of shooters and have messed around with ML for 20 years, and have yet to see a person get 1/2" accuracy consistently from 50 cal hunting loads(ie 100gr). You ought to consider competing.

Me and my .270 could NEVER do any better than that. Well, maybe on a real good day.

My .50 powerbelts measure near a .5 inch by themselves. That would have to be shooting in the same hole if I read that correctly.

msk26ny OMG that gun's cursed with only 1/2" groups. You must sell it right away and get one that groups better than that. MZ season is almost here and I wouldn't want you to shoot that gun and blow your chances at the buck of a lifetime. As a favor I'll take it off your hands for a backup gun so PM me for a price.;)

Half inch moa is pretty impressive, especially considering the bullet dia is that if you are not shooting sabots, and then it's pretty close to that.

My Remington 700 will consistantly shoot 1 inch over all groups, if I do my part. The rifle most likely shoots better than I do. If I don't measure the powder accurately from shot to shot, or pull a shot obviously things open up a bit. I also clean my barrel and let it cool between every shot. It's time consuming, but I want to be sure that first bullet out of a clean cool barrel will go where I want it to. I'm not worried about how it groups 3 shots later out of a dirty hot barrel. I don't intend on shooting that many times at a deer.

However it depends on how your measuring your groups. If you just shoot 3 or 4 shots into a group and measure them, then 1/2 inch groups would darn near be impossible, since the hole would be that big. You would have to put every shot thru the same hole. I think the correct way to measure groups however is to shoot several shoots, rule out the fartherst one (flyer), and then subtract the daimeter of a single bullet hole from the over all group diameter. So if you consistantly shot 1 inch groups and then subtracted the diameter of the hole, which would pretty much be .5 of an inch then you would be shooting half inch groups.

AMEN. How many times have we read a thread out on the board here like "loading problems", "crud ring buildup" or "why is 777 so hard to clean". Treat your gun to a patch between shots and you will recreate the hunting barrel you'll have out on opening morning. I don't take my gun to the range to rain down bullets as fast as possible just to get them all in while the firing line is active before everyone goes down to check the target. Our firing line is open for 15 minutes and I'll shoot 3 times only. In between shots I patch twice and reload and fire a 22 plinker for fun. My last shot is taken when the rangemaster calls for the final shot of a chambered round. That way my first shot is taken about 10 minutes later out of a cold barrel.

I actually pull my breech plug and completely clean my barrel from the back using a bore guide after each shot. I brush it, wet patch, and then dry patch it. Then I reassemble it, fire a cap, then load the gun for the next shot. I also use silicon on the inside of my barrel. It makes the bullets slide in easier.

I by the way have never experienced that ring people talk about, nor does my buddy with his Knight, and he loads at least 3 shot's back to back before cleaning his gun. However another guy we shot with last week had his (I forget the brand, it's a break open design, not a encore) do it after one shot? He was using pyrodex pellets though.

I bet there is a good 10 to 15 minutes between each shot when I shoot. Like I said, time consuming, but I get the results I am looking for. I have also taken 3 shots in a row before just to see what would happen and they group pretty good as well. So a follow up shot would not be a problem if I had to do it.

I don't do this with any of my modern cartridge type rifles though, I just shoot the crap out of them. They are all rimfires, I don't own a centerfire rifle any more except a shotgun.

what rifle are you getting 2050 fps with a 240 gr XTP?, I have a CVA hunter bolt mag I shot through a chrony and was getting an average of 2106 fps. and with just 2 pellets (100 grains) I get an avergae of 1912 fps.

I've never heard of anyone taking out the breech plug between shots. You do a lot more than all of us I'm sure. Yet I do clean between each shot. Here's what I do and it's always the same so when I get in the field there's no performance difference. I use a cleaning jag the kind that almost fully contacts the bore and has the 1/2 wide cross hatch face. I wet patch with TC's prelubed 1000 patches then follow with a dry patch. I get almost no residue and usually shoot about 15 shots this way. Afterwards my breech plug is usually quite clean with only a bit to clean off the face. At the end of the day I pull the plug I also take the scope off because I have Leupold's quick detachable rings and scrub the threads and dip in running water then run 2 prelubed patches followed by a bore snake with light gun oil on the last 6". My entire cleaning time takes 7 minutes. When I hunt I wipe with 1 dry patch and load just like when I'm on the bench to recreate the same bore.

High desert, its a knight disc elite. in the ML world, velocity is all over the place. I am pretty happy with 2050. My brother has the same ML you have. I always looked down on the CVA but we shot it the first time this weekend and it shot really well.
